When the rifle says 1/2 oct and 1/2 round is the length the same. Example 24 inch barrel is it 12 and 12.

No, the 1/2 octagon barrel is not 12" and 12" for the octagon versus round part of the barrel.

    Hello,

That is a little bit of a trick question. You have to subtract the threaded portion of the 24 inch barrel which is in the receiver and not part of the visible round or octagon portions. The octagon length is approximately 11 and 1/8 inches long on the Model 1892's. The round portion is then lengthened or shortened depending on the overall measurement of the barrel. I purchased a 20 inch "half round" barreled 1892 from Cabela's which they had listed as a cut down barrel because the round and octagon portion were not of equal length. The resulting price was a steal and the rifle is correct. It was simpler to buy the gun than try to explain it to the guys. If the round and octagon portions were of equal length for that gun then the transition would be approximately at the end of the fore end wood. That would be pretty weird looking.
