I think what i saw today was a Springfield armory sporter 1903. How do I tell if its real? IS IT POSSIBLE THAT THEY WOULD USE A MK1 reciever with a Pederson cut out to make a sporter?

Never say never when it comes to CMP / NRA rifles or pistols BUT IMHO this is a MADE UP PIECE.

What you saw was a sporterized issue type 1903Mk1. If you are referring to the 1903 NRA Sporter, they used new SA 1903 receivers. Many 1903 military surpluse receivers were built into sporters. Some were practically works of art if done by a master gunsmith. Most sporterized 1903's were NOT built by master gunsmiths.
