Short answer yes, accurately maybe, better with IC. Sabot slugs could be different.

Yep, that is the tightest I would use for slugs.

Moms 870 Wingmaster has a 28" smooth bore with fixed modified choke.

It's killed more deer in the last 15yrs than most guns kill in a life time.

So are there any brand/s of slugs not to use?

And any brand that may work best for short range/safe shooting?

    Smoothbore barrel- rifled slugs

    Rifled barrel- sabot slugs.

Oh, you CAN go either way, but accuracy will suck.

for my 500a mossy i have always used these slugs below in the link. they are the hardest hitting slug i have ever found. they dont have alot of expantion upon impact but i have never had a deer walk for than 10ft with shots out to 75yrds

I cast and shoot the lyman 540 gr sabot slug in my 870. It has a pistol grip, a 20" bbl with screw in chokes. When I cut it down to 20 and installed the screw in system I also put a mid bead in the rib. At about 100 yards I can hit a 3# coffie can most of the time using my favorite choke skeet#2. I have yet to kill big game with the load but I'm sure it's up to the task. Rainbow trajectory so what ever you use shoot it enough at different ranges to get good with it.

So at this point, I'm assuming it's safe to shoot either rifled or sabot slugs through a fixed modified choke smooth barrel. Rifled slugs for better accuracy, but both are ok?

Thanks again for the help. [:D]

Yes, no, maybe and who knows.

Buy a box of each and shoot them, each gun is different and can be VERY picky about what it likes to shoot.
