how do you safely remove dura-coat from a pistol's finish?

How good is Dura-coat? I was thinking about doing my m1a.is it really worth the money.

Was the gun stainless, steel or plastic? I'd say crushed walnut shell through a media blaster (very gentle). Or glass shot if you're in a rush.

the finish under the duracoat is stainless. its a sig. will the walnut hulls hurt the bluing underneath? thanks
