Have what looks like a single shot Mossberg Magazine for the Model 44 or 42 rifle
Old and no finish and showing some pitting.
Sides of the magazine are indented and will not take more than one shell. Has the hole in top and bottom to make it into 22 short

Indent on both sides looked to be well made and not distressed, dosen't look like a home made job.
Were these ever made in single shot ??

Don't remember them ever offering a single shot mag????

BUT it was popular during the 50's, 60's, 70's to "make" .22 rifles single shot for NRA competition matches, by filling the mag well with a spacer/ feed ramp to use one shell at a time.

Could you have such a "conversion"????

Just have the magazine, looking for information.
I sell 1,000's of magazines, a year this just one of the odd balls.

My WAG. Altered for training new shooters. Starting off folks, who have no prior experience with firearms. Don't want them to use, any sort of firearm. That has a mag, that can be loaded with more than 1 round. For safety reasons.

For a "take it to the bank" answer on Mossberg 22s, I would contact Victor or Cheryl Havlin at havlinsales.com. They run the Mossberg Collector's Association, Victor used to work for Mossberg, is the author of More Gun for the Money, they sell parts for Mossys- and are very nice folks to deal with.

And there is a difference between a 44US, a 44B, a 44(a), 44(b) etc.- but they use the same mags.
