I think that was the 22 wrf, same as the remington 22 special.

Ok I looked it up. Marlin levermatic in 1959 then Winchester 61 in 1960? If I read correctly -

The .22 WMR was introduced in 1959 by Winchester, but was not used by Winchester until the Winchester Model 61 slide rifle could be chambered for it in 1960. The first rifle to be offered in the new chambering was the Marlin Levermatic rifle in 1959, because its design was easily modified to accept the more powerful cartridge. By the time of the introduction of the Winchester 61, Smith & Wesson and Ruger had revolvers for it, and Savage had come out with the Model 24 and since late 2012, the Model 42, a more modern update than the 24, a .22/.410 rifle/shotgun combination gun. It was the only successful rimfire cartridge introduced in the 20th century.

While the 5mm Magnum was introduced, it faded out.

Well I have the complete receiver and internals anyway - no furniture or hardware.

Well, to pick at nits (or knits) the cartridge was the .22 Extra Long. No rifle. It was earlier than the .22 Long Rifle. Black powder cartridge.

There was also the .22 Winchester Automatic, and a rather rare .22 Remington Automatic (they did not interchange) and the ,22 BB and CB caps. (Cartridges of the World, pg 274-275)

The .22 Stevens Long, Rifle, was produced by putting the 40 grain bullet of the Extra Long in the Long case.
At one time the .22 Smith & Wesson Long was a distinct version.
