Clive Cussler passes

BobJudyBobJudy Member Posts: 6,445 ✭✭✭✭
All of the fans of Dirk Pitt, Al Giordino, and the NUMA gang are mourning the passing of Clive Cussler, 88 yesterday. One of the best selling adventure writers of all time. Not the most advanced literary prose but a darn good way to spend a rainy Sunday afternoon. RIP sir. Bob

His audio books entertained me on several road trips between Boise and Alpine.
    RIP.

I've read his two non fiction books on shipwrecks and enjoyed them. The only novel of his which I read was Raise The Titanic. I didn't care for it.

From what I understand he had a lot of Ghost writers maybe they can keep churning them out

His Dirk Pitt stories kept me entertained on many a long haul flight over the Atlantic and the Pacific and used many times to unwind after work and forget that I was in some remote corner of the world.

His ghost writers of late, some weave a pretty fair tale, albeit not exactly in the same class as Clive's wordplay and others are but print on paper.

Did you guys know he has a small automobile museum in the city of commerce in Denver near where they hold the Stock Show?

RIP Clive, you lived the dream.

Everytime I pass the woods hole oceanographic institute heading towards the ferry terminal to catch a ride to the vineyard I cannot help but be reminded of his writing career which I follow or recall his passion for and daily driver usage of obscure concourse level restored vehicles...

He autographed my copy of raise the Titanic and I caught a yellow caution flag trying to lap him at lime rock - saw him swap paint with Wayne carinni...

The isle of man style vintage motorcycle and chain drive car events - beach runs on packed damp sand...

I have placed the complete works of Clive cussler fiction in a small barrister bookcase next to the wood stove heater on the fireplaces hearth...

It was not uncommon to see him automobubbling about town on MV or Nantucket on some obscure esoteric vehicles of historic interest.

I have tested my skills against his on the trap range in the rod and gun club - I held my own...

A true gentleman and scholar - you would also always see him at the Hershey concourse events and swap meets.

    An avid firearms aficionado.

    A man amongst men.

Good read. I noticed that over the past couple of years that his son Dirk has been listed as co-author on some of his books. Other series by Cussler have had co-authors for years. This leads me to believe we will see the Cussler writing legacy live on. Other authors estates have done this for years. I actually like the newest Tom Clancy releases and he has been dead for some years now. I hope the Cussler substitutes do as good a job. Bob
