I needed to see a medical specialist and contacted the VA for Community Care since nearest VA facility with a specialist was over 300 miles away.
It was approved and received the proper written authorization....made the appointment and follow up appointment and purchased the prescribed Rx required.  The written authorization gave approval for Rx purchase with reimbursement from VA.
That was in January.  I completed the paperwork and sent it in for reimbursement. In Feb. the VA billed me for the co-pay which I paid.
This is now mid May and I still am waiting for reimbursement from the VA for the prescribed Rx.
How long does it usually take for the VA to reimburase??????
Or do I have to contact my congressperson again to get something done?

Well, had community care in JANUARY and still have not been reimbursed for RX specialist prescribed immediately.  Yes, the papers/receipts were completed and mailed to the address provided.

I used the VA website message system to contact the nearest hospital that provided the authorization a number of times.  I have been told to 'be patient.'

Contact my local VA Service Officer too.

I finally contacted the "person who can help me" at the nearest VA hospital by phone over a month and a half ago and was promised it would be taken care of.  And at her request forward copies of the Rx receipts to her the same day.

Still have not received reimbursement and it's July 1.

    Next stop:  Contact my congressperson.
There is NO excuse for this what-so-ever.

Made contact with a person at the VA hospital over 60 days ago who 'promised' to resolve the issue.  Also have complied with the request and forwarded the proper documentation/receipts for reimbursement.
    How long must one persevere?

FINALLY ... today I received the reimbursement check today for the RX the specialist prescribed and purchased back in January of this year.
Wow ~ only 7 months to be reimbursed......the promptness is just awesome - NOT!!!
At least I got paid w/o contacting a congressperson to build a fire under someone.

OK ... now have to go in next month for follow up appointment.
Messaged VA hospital several hundred miles away who referred me to care provider at local clinic.
Local clinic said OK'ed to go -- did not provide any authorization number/paperwork - just said taken care of with community care provider.
Today, VA hospital rep. called and when on phone contacted the private care provider, verified follow up appointment and will mail me an authorization number and paperwork needed.
Glad they seem to be getting with the program for we veterans using the community care option.

Received community care authorization letter from VA over a week ago and comfortable all is authorized and documented.
Appointment is at 1 PM today.
Simply a follow-up appointment with cardiologist ... just to check on how change in meds are working.
    All is good.

Health care wherever one goes now is a real PITA.
    What's next?

My follow-up visit with the heart specialist went fine.  See other post on recent visit.
