AR 15 Sight/Scope Opinions.

I found a another issue with getting old......In low light/timber it's hard to see the front sight post on my AR. I guess that means I need to be looking for a scope, or some sort of a red dot or other type sight. As an old fuddy, I'm thinking more of a traditional scope, but I do have a Bushnell red dot on my AR pistol, and like it. I would like to keep the price at $200.00 or less. The Bushnell was around $90.00 here on GB, and seems ok. TIA for any input.

I prefer green dot, over red dot in bright sunlight. It seems at least to me, as being more visible. All the ones  I have, are the reasonably inexpensive ones though..  Maybe the more expensive red dots, are better when it's real bright outside?

Forgot to mention. The size of the dot would be very critical, in hunting when mounted on a rifle. The smallest handgun dot are "3 minute". When mounted on a rifle at 100 yards. They will obscure approximately a 8" circle. For precise placement, this is way to much. 

For hunting on a rifle. Get the smallest size dot that you can. I don't know if they make "1 minute" dots? But for hunting at 100 yds or more, see if you can get one?

I've got all my dots, red & green . From either Optics Planet or Amazon. Likely if any manufacturer actually makes a "1 minute" dot? Optics Planet would have it.

About twice what you think you want to spend, but the Hi-Lux CMR line seems to get pretty good reviews.  1-4 power with a 1 MOA dot in either red or green.

No offense meant. But those fancy reticles, piss me off. If I wanted to be looking through, a U Boat  periscope. I would have been in the Kriegsmarine.

None taken, Rufe!  LOL!  I also think it would be better if they just stuck with the horseshoe and the dot, but....  They didn't ask me!

Virtually all my AR's have some sort of optic. The shorter range use guns have dot sights while the varmint/longer range guns have a scope of some sort. I'm developing a preference for the Burris AR332 as a combination use optic.

Leatherwood HI lux  CMR 1 X 4is a good choice but a bit more then you want to spend unless you can find a used one. The Bushnell M&P 1x32 is red/green T-Dot is also a good choice. I have numerous scopes/red dots of the above fore mentioned.

I have both styles on several AR platforms.  Turning on and off the optic is a HUGE drawback.  The brand new Vortex on the G-34 had a dead battery after a few months.  I confirmed the optic was off when I put it away, got it out to do some target shooting and the battery was dead.  Glass, good glass, is easier to use and a better option across the board in my mind.

I also own a Bushnell M&P Trophy red/green T-dot, (on a Marlin Camp 9) very nice optic. Of my two AR's, one wears a Sig Tac CP4, The other wears a Vortex Strikefire II. (Like all 3.) All 3 around $200.

High end a Meprolight MP20 Holographic sight. (No batteries.) On a Kel-Tec PLR16. (Think AR pistol) $400 for these though.
