Post Office-marked S&W and H&R firearms

The Railway Mail Service Library (RMSL) has a C&R FFL and collects firearms that were issued to Railway Postal Clerks (RPCs) who worked in Railway Post Offices (RPOs).  There are several Colt Bankers Special .38 revolvers in the collection, but I have never seen a Harrington & Richardson Defender Special .38 or a Smith & Wesson Chiefs Special that is marked "P.O. DEPT.," "R.M.S." or other factory-rolled marking.  I welcome information about these guns and know that they were issued to RPCs because there are references to these models in General Orders.  Best wishes, Frank Scheer fscheer@railwaymailservicelibrary.org
