Rem 541-T

25 years ago when I bought this I had an "extra screw" put in by a gun smith. The question is why did I have this done?! Seems maybe later models had this done at the plant. Something about maybe the 1st round into the chamber?? Then maybe something else. Thanks

I am fond of the 541's, and have owned a few over the years. I've never heard of the "extra screw" that you are talking about, could please you be a little more specific?
I think some had one action screw and the second screw made them more accurate.
