Evidently reinventing the wheel. I did find another video from Savage:
Savage Arms introduces the Straight Pull bolt action with safety breech barrels:
Straight Pull actions have been around for over a century and the breech ring barrel system for over 40 years. Goes to show you that there is really nothing new under the Sun but it is new to Savage...
Best.
ADDED:
Evidently, those of us who garnered this information and video from the Savage website have literally jumped the gun! Savage Arms has pulled all of the related material, links and videos from the internet. The illustration above is all that remains that I could find except for the posts discussing it on many firearms forums. Oh well!
Best.
ADDED:
New video posted above.

Sometimes things that were thought old become new and are relevant again. I cannot count how many times old designs were slightly enhanced and came back better than the originals. Would you say that the old designed Colt 1911 is new to Remington or the host of other 1911 manufacturers out there? Its only a 110 years old!!! 😁
Here is a fairly complete list of straight pull rifles:
I would say that your comments and observations are nothing short of obvious.
Savage is simply recycling a couple of older ideas into one type of rifle trying to appear to be on the 'leading edge'.
Best.
I guess you misinterpreted me. Its sarcasm! First time I should have been more sarcastic!
I understand the mechanics but the WHY??? escapes me.
Here is the original video I posted. We'll see how long it lasts this time:
