Brand new Benelli SBE3 bbl stuck!

jb4lcmjb4lcm Member Posts: 119 ✭✭

I just received my SBE 3 a couple days ago - NEW. Assembled it yesterday - it took a little bit of force to get it to slide over the tube and then seat with a "click". When I tried to disassemble - the bbl will not budge. And yes - the nut is off! Anyone else have a sticky bbl like this? What's goin on??

    Sounds like it is stuck. Don

    You probably already know this but the bolt has to be in the closed position to remove the barrel. Bob

    I finally got it pulled out - but had to pull really hard, holding the stock with my thighs and pulling up with both hands. NOT what i expected to have happen. WAY too much binding here.

    Glad you got it apart. Is it a camo finished gun? Some times the camo coating makes things tight for a while until it wears a bit in the contact areas. If it is the black synthetic check where the forend is coming in contact because I have seen new ones bind until the plastic wears in a bit. Having a new gun fit tight is good but can be too much of a good thing at first. Bob

    I just bought one this week....it was more difficult to get it together than I expected.......I have not taken it apart yet. Thanks for the heads up

    Camo finish seems to be the culprit. It's all good until the last 1/8" where the bbl meets the receiver. Is it wise to 320 grit this lip? Lube it?

    You can do both but after a few times being disassembled it should loosen up on its own and still seat tight to keep out moisture and dirt. Nice gun by the way. Bob

    Edit to add - make sure you wipe off any shaved off camo in that area each time or it may get stuck between the surfaces and make the barrel even tighter.

    bobjudy .... the manual says the have the bolt OPEN for stripping ...

    Upon closer inspection - the bolt must be open to remove the bbl because when the bolt is closed - it rotates into a groove in the bbl. When I pulled the bbl out with the bolt closed it pulled the bolt out of the gun with the bbl and landed in my lap. had it hi the floor it might have damaged the bolt assembly.

    I must admit that I have never taken apart a SBE3 but have done dozens of the earlier versions and was not aware of any change in disassembly. This video shows how I always did it and he is taking apart a SBE3;

    If I gave outdated info, I apologize but this looks like it comes apart like it always did. Bob

    Bobjudy = thanks for the link. I watched that one before posting as well and found it to be opposite from the Benelli book instructing the bolt to be open - but obviously works in the video so it's a bit confusing. When I look at the bolt with it closed, it spins counter-clockwise and locks the bolt into the bbl (the last photo I posted) so it seemed like that would stop the bbl from being removed. However - the bolt just slides forward and OUT as there is nothing holding it in the gun.

    Anyway, thanks for the assist!

    You're welcome. I always found that with the bolt being open the top half of the receiver/barrel extension was hard to get past the bolt, both during assembly and disassembly. If you pull the bolt open just enough to unlock it from the barrel it will help prevent it from coming off with the barrel. Good luck and enjoy your new shotgun! Bob
