Photo of my drivers license, and scan of my face

I signed up last night for gunbrokers because I seen some ammo I haven’t been able to find anywhere else. During the process it asked for a picture of my drivers license, and a scan of my face. Is this normal?

Don't forget to send in a stool sample.
Take a picture of the back side of your license and a scan of your favorite dogs face......worked for me 😊.

Are you sure they didn't want proof of Covid shots.
And a note from your mommy?
This is the A.I. that serf keeps talking about.
also be sure the FFL also accepts credit card payments.
Apparently it worked or you wouldn't be here posting. If you were on the secure GB page, and not on a link you recieved through spam e mail I'd bet you're ok. I do understand being cautious.
And Welcome aboard.
And a copy of the SS number
Birdbrain's DOJ wants to be able to quickly identify you domestic terrorist types. Ammo huh? Why would you need that?
so everyone here was asked to do the same thing when signing up?
No, can't say I was. 20 yrs ago though.
Just imagine the changes that have occurred in the last 20 years. Scarry😉
I would say no, this is not normal. Send a copy of your drivers license, that is usually all a seller asks for. Maybe in a rare case two photo IDs. But he has to send to the address you have on Gunbroker. And if the drivers license address on GB. don’t match they may feel funny about sending.
No, can't believe that but with all the scammers here now, perhaps BUT not a "scan of MY face!"
Gun brokers finally emailed me back. They said it is normal to verify my identity to prevent fraud.
Must be a brand new thing then. How does one "scan" their face?
I'm sorry you opened such a can o' worms lookin for answers here Fuelhauler. Welcome aboard though!
it prompts you to hold the phone up to your face and it takes like a computer generated picture of you. It was really weird. I really needed these shells for hunting or else I would have said to hell with the whole thing
Yeah, alot of new technology creeps me out. That woulda done it for me. I just now got a mobile phone, that my grandkids are teaching me to use. I'm still not totally sold on it.
Glad you got that cleared up.
News to me. Gun Broker was sold a few months back and became a public company. Maybe this is something that the GB forum stockholders thought up to protect their investment.
As a stock holder - just got the 'Your Vote Counts' thing from Charles Schwab Co. I have requested a written copy of materials. I very much plan to ask 'WHY', because I do wish to protect my investment. Best Regards - AQH
I can guarandamntee you that the day they require me to scan my mugly ug into a computer in order to use the site will be the last day I'll be here, there, or anywhere else.
+1
Mule
+1 again. Not this ol' boy, no sireee.
I didn't do that.
Maybe the seller of the ammo is wanting the information to verify you are of age.
It was during the registration process. He hadn't bid yet. GBHQ advised that is how it is now done.
Face recognition technology is a key to open some mobile phones so maybe the tech is expanding to websites. This may make things more "secure" but sounds like royal PIA to me.
Maybe this will help cut down on fraud? Maybe it's why the numbers of "I've been scammed! Watchout" posts on this forum have diminished significantly? Hope so but man, that seems a bit extreme.
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
Well ain't that something. The internet going to face to face sales.
