It doesn’t get any more “Alaska” than this

I went out early this morning to let the dogs do their business and it was dead calm. Brisk air nipping the nose, and I heard the local owl talking. Pretty soon another down the valley answered back, then the coyotes all let loose, above me, below me, across the valley they were all yipping and yeowling to each other. Then I looked up and the sky was covered with northern lights.
What a way to start the day!

An experience I dream to have. Sounds so exhilarating.
Sorry Nanuq! My mind's visualization process is on the blink this morning. Please send pictures! 😁
Sounds good but I prefer the beach and Atlantic Ocean. Nothing like slipping into nice 75 degree water and watching the sun rise as the dolphins are playing near by.
Interesting. My wife and I were out for a walk early this morning in the nippy air and we too heard an owl (perched up on a lamp post near our path and quite large). They are fun birds to observe. As much as he was hooting, he didn't get any replies that we heard. The coyotes were quiet this morning too, but they usually aren't.
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
Pictures? Every time I pointed the camera at the owl or coyotes they clammed up. But the northern lights cooperated. @dpmule should recognize this, it's peak two and peak three behind Flattop, viewed from the southwest.
Far out, man!
One of many things I miss about Alaska. Laying on your back to view the aurora. Photos and video do it no justice.
I was lying in bed a couple nights ago, it was maybe 3AM and I was trying to go back to sleep. We have massive huge windows in the house so the view outside is almost as good as being out there. Sky was clear, Milky Way was strung out, tons and tons of stars, a couple satellites went over, then without warning BOOOOOM!!!
The sky erupted into a massive northern lights display, they were from the northern horizon to directly overhead, gigantic sweeps and swathes of green and red curtains moving all over the sky. It lasted maybe 3 or 4 minutes, then faded quickly and they were gone.
I've never seen a display that came on that quickly, and rarely seen one that intense.
The most impressive displays I have gotten to see have been on The North Slope of Alaska in places with very little artificial light. They were all breathtaking.
I worked with Native boys from places like Fort Yukon, Bettles, and Hughes, they told stories of the lights right down in the trees playing and they swore that sometimes you could hear them and if they clapped their hands, the lights would jump.
I have no way to verify or if it is an old wives tale, but similar stories from different villages makes me think there might be some truth there

Nanuq907, where you are situated by my thinking should block quite a bit of ambient town light, do you also get a really good view of the Leonid meteor shower in November?
Years ago when my work schedule coincided with it, I would bundle up in my arctic gear and watch it, quite a shower, sometimes like a small fireworks display.

Not Alaska but I always like to howl back at the Coyotes around here.
I have one of those game calls..distress rabbits... crows..you name it ..
