took advantage of freebie yesterday...........
we have a resort in roanoke wv, called stonewall resort with an Arnold Parmer designed golf course, roughly with tax almost a $100 a round per person. They used to offer a free round every veterans day to veterans, but being in november and in the mountains the weather was usually to cold to play comfortable. The have now changed it to Freedom Day, may be a made up name of their own but it was scheduled for the 14th of october this year. I went with my brother in law, and two cousins, All of whom are vietnam vets, and we had a 8:30 tee time. The staff, a young lady who was running the clubhouse, and the fellows outside, starter and other help were all as nice and friendly as could be. turns out they had 160 vets scheduled for the day, course was in great shape and everyone we talked to seemed to be having a great time, heard a few stories and a lot of laughter out of everyone.
Just got done writing a brief letter to the staff and management, thanking them on being so generous and how nice and pleasant everyone we met were. Also wanted to thank them for moving the outing up a month as the weather could not have been better, a bit overcast, but well into the high 60's or maybe even the low 70, as expected most everyone was in their upper 60's to 70 as well and one old fellow was 86!, though a bit wobbly he seemed to get around great for his age and seemed to be having a great time. It is nice to see a place who still is willing to give up a days earnings to provide a great day for a bunch of old vets.

Good news
Kudos for the Thank You letter. Nothing could better guarantee that they keep doing this.
It's good to hear this type of news! Good on those folks.
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
