A good afternoon Hunting again today.....
Headed out early afternoon and set up in a spot I have not hunted this year. Beautiful day....50's, cloudy and a nice breeze from the SE.... It is doe season. The first encounter of the day was a decent buck grunting behind my ground blind. Only caught a glimpse of him but at least 4 points on each side..... I was visited by some turkeys in the woods to the North of me. They were fun to watch.
About 4, a decent buck popped out of the tree line to the East of me. I first saw him about 400 yards out and he came running towards my position, then stopped and nibbled on some grass. It took about 20 minutes but he ended up less than 30 yards from my blind. He hung around and finally trotted behind my blind less than 15 yards from me....
In the last 10 minutes of legal shooting time, a group of 6 came running in from the West......A nice doe lined up a shot for me at about 175 yards. I managed to miss. As I was in the process of pulling the trigger, five more came running through....CRAP.... There were three smaller bucks in the bunch. And the rest were mostly yearlings....
I did walk out and double check, no blood, no hair, the only reaction to the shot was it ran over a terrace where I could not get a 2nd shot...Walked atop two terraces, nothing in between them and nothing in the edge of the woods..... It got too dark to do more, but I am convinced I missed...
I always see decent bucks during Doe season. Hopefully I can get out a little more before this season ends on Sunday..
Lots of action and a beautiful spot to hunt
Anyone else been out and about hunting lately ???
My Spot today...

Any day hunting is a good day.
I've been out 2-3 days/week since Sept. No big bucks so far, but I do have 10 does in the freezer. Most archery, a few with the rifle, and even two with the air bow. Tough hunting in the swamp bottoms, but been a fun season, and still 6 weeks to go.
We've got several little 'spiker' bucks running around. Gotta be darned careful during 'antlerless' season.
I gave up on 'doe season' and zeroed my 'alternative methods' guns yesterday. Hoping for much cooler weather by 12/23. Hate hunting in the mud and worrying about spoilage.
+1.....
It is much cooler today but it rained last night. I hope to head out in the afternoon today but am concerned about the mud etc.
