Does any member shoot 25.06? Just curious.

Sorry Butchdog3, my fingers don't go always where they should be. That got me 30 days home detention years ago.

I shot a 25/06 for several years. Excellent long range coyote and deer killer. I took mine on several cow elk hunts with 100% success. It killed every elk it hit.

Bullet choice is the key for this round on bigger game. I probably wouldn't recommend for bull elk beyond 200-250 yards especially in rough country. Not much margin for error.

I've taken deer with the 25-06 using 110 grain accubonds and it does a very good job

I have a Browning BBR and a Ruger 77RS. I haven't shot anything except targets with them and they work good for that.

I have a Remington mountain rifle in 25-06. Bought it used because of it's light weight. I worked up a load for it with 117 gr. Sierra's. It shoots so well that I don't shoot it any more. I don't want to burn out the throat. Two of my sons took deer with it. Both with one shot at 100+ yds. With its barrel as thin as it is, I didn't expect it to be as accurate as it is. Once I found the load it liked, I loaded 40 or so and still have 20+ left.

When I hear a centerfire rifle shot when deer hunting in rifle season and it sounds like the sound of some black powder guns it's usually a 25:06 sound.

The 25;06 sometimes has a double blast sound, the first is the muzzle blast and the second is the bullet breaking the sound barrier.

Some 25;06's can be fineky for good consistent accuracy if they have a long thin barrel and for large game such as deer or elk they should be sending a really good hunting type bullet such as a Nosler partition or Hornady Interlocks plus some others. I cannot recommend any type of hollow point bullets due to possible weak penetration at the closer ranges due to the HV's.

At the closer ranges like inside 100 yards due to the velocity if the bullet hitting a bone close to the surface the bullet might just blow up and not penetrate.

Wondering why you ask about the 25;06??????????????

I hunt with a Browning ABolt in 25-06. It loves the 115 gr Winchester Ballistic Tips and they are very efficient in doing what they are supposed to do. I am glad I have several boxes of it as it is getting harder to find and much more expensive than 3-4 years ago.

I outsmarted myself about 35 years ago and bought a Ruger M77-V in .25-06.

Wanted a hot round for varmints that I could also use on deer.

With the proper bullets it is very capable, though it does burn alot of powder almost like a magnum.

Well, I found that lugging that heavy barreled rifle around deer hunting was less than ideal so it has been sitting more than it should.

It's a fine round for young boys and old men. Add .020 to your bullet diameter and you'll have a real round.

(Was that the sound of a pot being stirred? Why, yes! Yes it was!)

I've got one in a Remington 700 Titanium. I bought it more because it was a Ti model and less because of the caliber (other than collecting the Ti's in all calibers except the short mags). I have shot it and like it OK. But, to me it seems a bit of an answer to a question that very few asked. I see its only real appeal of being a crossover varmint/deer caliber. It is certainly better than my .243 Win and 6mm Rem's for that role, but I think I would grab my 7mm-08 first though admittedly the 25-06 likely reaches out better. There's nothing really wrong with the caliber, but it doesn't seem to excel at either roles just like the previous 4 calibers I mention.

Currently I don't buy any guns with the idea of multipurpose except for possibly some shotguns. Benelli Super Black Eagle and an additional slug barrel can certainly fill a lot of roles. It's largely more for a SHTF scenario than it is to use for the role.

Fanatic collector of the 10mm auto.
