Vets planning `Million Vet March on the Memorials'

As World Net Daily reported Wednesday, "veterans first fought America's wars, then they fought the National Park Service over White House-ordered closures of war memorials because of the partial shutdown of the federal government."

Now they're developing a response to President Obama's "war" against them: A rally."

According to the website, the "Million Vet March on the Memorials" will be held Sunday, Oct. 13, at 9 a.m. Eastern at the World War II memorial on the National Mall.

While World Net Daily noted that it's "the location where rangers under orders from the White House tried, unsuccessfully, to prevent vets from visiting in recent days," Breitbart's Matthew Boyle reported Tuesday that it's also the location where Center for Community Change (CCC) and "several thousand AFL-CIO and SEIU sponsored pro-amnesty demonstrators" were given special permission by President Barack Obama to hold a rally on Tuesday afternoon "to call for Congress to grant legal status to America's at least 11 million illegal immigrants."

As The Daily Caller reported Oct. 1, the "Obama administration knew about the vet's request" to visit the WWII memorial "and rejected it."

According to the report, the request to have World War II veterans visit the World War II memorial in Washington - made by Mississippi Republican Rep. Steven Palazzo - was rejected by the White House and the Department of the Interior.

Last Tuesday, Palazzo "helped the veterans commit an act of civil disobedience" when "the heroes stormed through barricades around the closed memorial."

While the National Mall remains closed to average Americans and tourists -- both foreign and domestic - CCC also had permission to erect an elaborate set-up to accommodate and entertain their rally attendees.

As The Washington Examiner's Charlie Spiering reported Tuesday as the set-up began, there was "a giant stage with lights," - complete with three jumbo-trons -- a large "Immigration Reform Now" banner in the center of the mall and "more than 100 porta potties."

As several groups of musicians performed sound checks, a lone National Park Service employee arrived to survey the scene, but referred me to the Park Service communications office and left when I asked her why she was called into work today."

Boyle noted further that the event was attended by "several members of Congress," including GOP Reps. Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL). Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ)."

Scores of Democratic House members also began arriving shortly after 12:30 PM on golf carts."

The Washington Times reported Tuesday that Florida Republican Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen took to the stage to send a message to the president.

Please open our parks and open this Mall to veterans and to normal everyday citizens who also should have the same access we enjoy here today."

As Examiner noted Saturday, Florida Bay Charter owner Captain Thomas Wayne sent a letter to Ros-Lehtinen -- who represents residents like Wayne in South Florida District 27 - begging her to "get back to work and help" re-open Florida's fishing waters, closed by the government, so he could "go to work."

Wayne said the closure is "killing" his business.

The National Journal reported Tuesday that "a number of Democratic lawmakers" were arrested at CCC's rally "in what they dubbed as an act of civil disobedience."

The lawmakers will each need to post a $50 fine, and there will likely be an Ethics Committee report generated as a result of the incident, according to one aide. The exact reason for their arrests is not yet known."

"The amnesty activists also littered signs, papers, flyers, and other materials for their cause along the street, forcing the unpaid Capitol Hill police officers to clean up the street in the shadow of the Capitol building up after them," Boyle wrote for Breitbart in a separate report Tuesday.

Officers could be seen bending down to pick up the trash left along the sidewalks, as hundreds of amnesty activists cheered those being arrested."

Following Ros-Lehtinen's plea for Obama to reopen the National Mall, The Washinton Times also reported that California Democrat House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of California "defended the president" and thanked him for making an exception during the shutdown and "enabling" them "to gather" there.

USA Today reported Oct. 2 that House Minority Speaker and fellow "House Democrats introduced their own bill" that "would overhaul the nation's immigration laws."

While the bill proposed by Democrats omits the provision approved by the Senate in June -- calling for an additional 700 miles of fencing and placing 20,000 more agents on the U.S.-Mexico border -- "the bill adds a proposal by Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, that would require the Department of Homeland Security to develop a border security strategy that will ensure 100 percent of the border is monitored and agents are stopping 90 percent of people trying to cross it."

As Examiner noted Monday, Pelosi's bill "stands in direct conflict with the administration's new order -- reported Monday by Breitbart's Brandon Darby -- that Border Patrol agents "stand down and cease pursuing drug smugglers, human smugglers and traffickers, and illegal aliens."

The Washington Times reported further Tuesday that Pelosi also "said veterans have told her the administration has 'bent over backwards' to allow them to visit the World War II Memorial on the Mall."

However, according to the announcement by Special Operations Speaks (SOS), they are organizing the "Million Vet March on the Memorials" rally because the Obama administration "is using the government shutdown as an excuse to keep our veterans from acknowledging the debt owed to them and their predecessors."

In a mean-spirited fit of selfish anger, Barack Obama has shut down our nation's war memorials. And he has declared open war on our honored veterans! The World War II memorial . the Vietnam Veterans Memorial . the Korean War Veterans Memorial - Obama has shut them all down to force his will on the House of Representatives and frankly, to get revenge on the American people who oppose Obamacare and his other naked power grabs."

SOS also asks Americans "to sign our petition to re-open the war memorials."

"Let's put it plainly," the announcement states further, "Barack Obama is behaving like a vicious tyrant. And if he succeeds in this assault on the democratic system, the Republic we love is at mortal risk. It's just that simple.
"This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it, or exercise their revolutionary right to overthrow it." Abraham Lincoln
