From reading all the posts, the NRA is ALWAYS wrong. The NRA critics are ALWAYS right.

Wish I lived in such a non-complex world. Sure would save a lot of thinking. The other side is ALWAYS wrong, my side is ALWAYS right. Man, a person could coast through life thinking like that even if they were brain dead.

Something is missing on this NRA thread.

Oh, yeah, we so far only have only two actual negative comments by the rabid NRA haters, the Canary * and/or their fans. We need the usual several of that clan weighing in and chanting "We hate the NRA, we hate the NRA." Kinda like the street scene of the dirty, ignorant villiagers scene in some cheap grade B movie dressed shabbily, missing teeth, unkempt hair, etc.

Perhaps this post will fire those filthy villagers up and they will make their appearence. We shall see.

    NO facts, just insults........AS USUAL....

The devil tells just enough truth to secure the gullible.

Those unable to recognize that simple fact are doomed to become followers.

fox, too bad this is the best you can do. Sometimes makes me wonder, are you one of those people who has some disorder where you have the uncontrollable need to take a regular beating?

Your arguements have been throughly taken apart, repeatedly and you have almost renounced them a couple times. It even appears that you can barely say that you support them, and that you don't care what anyone says.

Are you secretly married to Wayne and just can't bring yourself to divorce him?

I learned a long time ago that no one is ever always right or always wrong. Anyone who thinks otherwise had best re think his logic. A broken clock is right twice a day.

    Perhaps.

However..all available historical evidence indicates that a government that insists upon stringent gun control for its citizens soon enough turn to killing those citizens.

Are you willing to gamble with your childrens' lives, and the future of your freedom, betting that this government is somehow 'different' ?

Yes I concede this point, however the only one who appears to be brain dead here is fox, for failing to do his own research.....and for failing to reply to valid questions in light of his own thread topics.

He does not care what people say and even though some of them we're just like he.............we looked deeper............ He will not, Its to far gone now, He showed light In a thread were he reached and epiphany that most of us "UN BRAIN DEAD" people come too when we look for our selves at the facts.

......... all it was, was a ploy for more argument. There is nothing more to be said to this fool for he will NOT get it, its gone to far for him.

IMO, the jury remains out whether Gura's approach is better or worse than is the NRA's. If the only goal is to win this specific case, and strike down a narrowly defined law with a narrowly defined decision as was eventually done with Heller, then the NRA is perhaps correct. The downside of this approach is that the end result will be narrow and will, like Heller, most likely preserve restrictive options for any level of government.

A blanket decision is obviously the end goal, and the NRA's trepidation, just like their trepidation with Heller is understandable on one level. That goal, we must recognize, is a 'Gun Rights' goal, and has little to do with the Human Right that is confirmed in the 2nd Amendment.

I personally believe it is high time we stop nipping at the heels of the grabbers and launch the assault that apparently is being set up by Gura. If one wishes to coach this in defensive politics, one could argue that there is no time like the present regarding the make up of SCOTUS. It appears that Kennedy will be around for awhile, and he is the one and only man that is really making this decision.

Don, I have an idea. Instead of Fox selling memberships to the NRA; perhaps he could sell them for the GSA (Gura Second Amendment) Fund. At least we'd know the money is going for an active fight.

Well Fox, are you up for the change?

Gura is connected with the GOA and the Cato Institute.

IMO, the GOA, though imperfect, is greatly superior to the NRA, and because of that, I became a life member.

The Cato Institute, which sponsored Heller from the get-go, appears to be very well funded and is involved in many issues in addition to the 2nd Amendment. A worthy cause, perhaps, but also a dilution of your funds.

Perhaps, rather than starting the GSA, I could post endless threads advocating for the full support of the GOA and Cato?

Lets start with the Cato Institute, the 'evil libertarians' cited in the letter Mr. Fox posted to dismiss Gura.

    Give till it hurts, people....[:)]

    About Cato

The Cato Institute was founded in 1977 by Edward H. Crane. It is a non-profit public policy research foundation headquartered in Washington, D.C. The Institute is named for Cato's Letters, a series of libertarian pamphlets that helped lay the philosophical foundation for the American Revolution.

    Cato's Mission

The mission of the Cato Institute is to increase the understanding of public policies based on the principles of limited government, free markets, individual liberty, and peace. The Institute will use the most effective means to originate, advocate, promote, and disseminate applicable policy proposals that create free, open, and civil societies in the United States and throughout the world.

    Cato's Publications and Events

The Cato Institute undertakes an extensive publications program dealing with the complete spectrum of public policy issues. Books, monographs, briefing papers and shorter studies are commissioned to examine issues in nearly every corner of the public policy debate. Policy forums and book forums are held regularly, as are major policy conferences, which Cato hosts throughout the year, and from which papers are published thrice yearly in the Cato Journal. All of these events are taped and archived on Cato's Web site. Additionally, Cato has held major conferences in London, Moscow, Shanghai, and Mexico City. The Institute also publishes the quarterly magazine Regulation and a bimonthly newsletter, Cato Policy Report.

    How Cato Is Funded

In order to maintain its independence, the Cato Institute accepts no government funding. Cato receives approximately 75 percent of its funding from individuals, with lesser amounts coming from foundations, corporations, and the sale of publications. The Cato Institute is a nonprofit, tax-exempt educational foundation under Section 501(c) 3 of the Internal Revenue Code. Cato's 2007 revenues were over $24 million, and it has approximately 105 full-time employees, 75 adjunct scholars, and 23 fellows, plus interns.

    How to Label Cato

Today, those who subscribe to the principles of the American Revolution--individual liberty, limited government, the free market, and the rule of law--call themselves by a variety of terms, including conservative, libertarian, classical liberal, and liberal. We see problems with all of those terms. "Conservative" smacks of an unwillingness to change, of a desire to preserve the status quo. Only in America do people seem to refer to free-market capitalism--the most progressive, dynamic, and ever-changing system the world has ever known--as conservative. Additionally, many contemporary American conservatives favor state intervention in some areas, most notably in trade and into our private lives.

"Classical liberal" is a bit closer to the mark, but the word "classical" connotes a backward-looking philosophy.

Finally, "liberal" may well be the perfect word in most of the world--the liberals in societies from China to Iran to South Africa to Argentina are supporters of human rights and free markets--but its meaning has clearly been corrupted by contemporary American liberals.

The Jeffersonian philosophy that animates Cato's work has increasingly come to be called "libertarianism" or "market liberalism." It combines an appreciation for entrepreneurship, the market process, and lower taxes with strict respect for civil liberties and skepticism about the benefits of both the welfare state and foreign military adventurism.

The market-liberal vision brings the wisdom of the American Founders to bear on the problems of today. As did the Founders, it looks to the future with optimism and excitement, eager to discover what great things women and men will do in the coming century. Market liberals appreciate the complexity of a great society, they recognize that socialism and government planning are just too clumsy for the modern world. It is--or used to be--the conventional wisdom that a more complex society needs more government, but the truth is just the opposite. The simpler the society, the less damage government planning does. Planning is cumbersome in an agricultural society, costly in an industrial economy, and impossible in the information age. Today collectivism and planning are outmoded and backward, a drag on social progress.

Market liberals have a cosmopolitan, inclusive vision for society. We reject the bashing of gays, China, rich people, and immigrants that contemporary liberals and conservatives seem to think addresses society's problems. We applaud the liberation of blacks and women from the statist restrictions that for so long kept them out of the economic mainstream. Our greatest challenge today is to extend the promise of political freedom and economic opportunity to those who are still denied it, in our own country and around the world.
Freedom and a submissive populace cannot co-exist.
