NRA is there to help... in many ways

dlonewolflldlonewolfll Member Posts: 77 ✭✭
I know that I will get many opinions good and bad on this, but it should give many something to think about. I have read many opinions in this net forum and I always find something to think about, because of the way people present their views. Great reading for anyone that actually takes the time and has an open mind. One of the things that makes this country great!

NRA seems to be a sore subject to some folks because they feel the NRA "won't be there to help when the government comes to take my guns" or "doesn't get the word out to the uninformed" or "only wants my money and keeps asking for it". You can add any complaint that you have or may have heard her.--- Hey, I may not like all the requests for help that I get from the NRA either, but I give what I can when I can. I believe that is all the NRA is asking for. It is the same is any other organization I belong to or exist out there that send me papers on a constant basis ( i.e. Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, North AMerican Hunting Club, Disabled American Veterans, United States Olympic Shooting Team, etc.)

I believe the benefits provided me by the NRA are these: They lobby in the House and Senate, trying to keep our wants and rights in the faces of the short-sighted and back dealing representitives; They keep the membership informed of things going on Capitol Hill that affect us and that we would not normally know about (because the liberal media is not going to tell us), They support the shooting sportings and hunting sports in too many ways to list her.

I believe it is up to me and my brothers-in-arms (law abiding gun owners) to protect and keep my firearms, by any means neccesary, if big brother should one day decide to come retreive them---that is not the NRA's job, but I want them to alert me to the coming of the socialists.

I believe it is up to us ( owners or firearms )---not the NRA--- to " get the word out to the uninformed". It costs us alot less to do it than it would the NRA.

I believe it is the RESPONSIBILITY of ALL gunowners to join the NRA and give financially what you can. It doesn't have to be much and all you do give is appreciated by the rest of us. Remember, the "uninformed" and the groups that want OUR firearms aren't going to give ANY money to the NRA!

To those that think the best way to win is to sit back and wait for "big brother" to come and get the guns and then "go to war" to keep the guns, you have already lost the war. Any military strategist will tell you that fighting one type of war will end in defeat. You have to fight at many different fronts and at many different levels in order to achieve victory and the NRA gives US these opportunities.

Anyhow, this is my humble opinion. I am eager to read your opinions, humble or otherwise. Thanks for reading my "rant".

Welcome to the forum. Your thoughts and logic are very reasonable. The only thing I might comment on is that in my case I try to respect pro-gun rights people here (and everywhere else) who don't believe the NRA is the best organization to help us keep our rights. I don't usually wish to expend a whole lot of time and energy trying to prove them to be wrong. I merely would hope they would be satisified in just not supporting the NRA but at the same time not expend any effort to try and harm the NRA. After all I don't think any anti-NRA person can truthfully claim that the NRA is in the same camp as the Brady Campaign (a.k.a. Handgun Control, Inc) in that not matter how bad the anti-NRA people feel, the NRA is doing us more good than bad.

So I would ask the NRA bashers to just quietly leave the NRA alone to do what it is doing and spend their time, money and effort in a positive manner by joining and supporting one of THE VERY FEW pro-gun groups that are out there working for us that the NRA bashers do believe in.

To me that doesn't sound like too much to ask. Maybe if some time in the future we pro-gun people have the balance of power in our favor or have more pro-gun organizations working for us than we need, heck even I might reconcider and maybe divert my efforts to another pro-gun rights group. But for the present I support the NRA, GOA, 2nd Amendment Foundation, and am looking at JPFO.

I am no longer a member of NRA. I will continue to support GOA. I like the GOA's no-compromise attitude. I support all firearms rights, though the NRA has been happy to sell them out. Remember the machine gun ban of 1986? That was their bill. Thanks to their actions, the gun I want (MP5K-PDW) will cost at least $13,000. If the NRA hadn't pushed their law so hard, I could get one for $900 plus a $200 transfer tax.

The Gun Owners of America is working to overturn this, and all other unconstitutional laws. If I join the NRA, I am only encouraging the legislation they passed, like the machine gun ban of '86.

I think that the NRA could do MUCH better....That said they do ....do something...which I would have to say is better than nothing. If and when there are some changes made I will be the first in line to rejoin...I do the best I can to support our gun rights...in Many ways...I would rather the uninformed and or uninterested would be NRA members than do nothing,or be members and work hard elsewhere as well. Was that better friend Fox??? L.H.

I agree with longhunter. I would gladly join the NRA again if they became a no-compromise group. I will continue to support GOA. I will stay with GOA even if NRA comes back to life.

the important thing is that you belong to and support at least one of the effective progun rights groups, the GOA. On that note we are all on the same side of the war.

I've been an NRA member for more years than I care to remember, but am concerned that something is amiss in the leadership. Yes, they do lobby congress, but they also have their hands out every five minutes asking for more and more money. Sometimes in my mailbox, it's almost like Reader's Digest Sweepstakes time what with the contests, give aways, et., etc., etc.

I give what I can, when I can. I recruit new members. I write my congressional delegation. But for the last two or three years, it seems that all they want is my money, and I'm beginning to wonder what for?
