Anyone reload the 257 Roberts????

OakieOakie Member Posts: 40,519 ✭✭✭✭
I am looking for a good reload for my remington 700 cdl in 257 roberts. I have reloading manuals but want opinions on powders and what you reloaded. I am going to use a 117 grain bullet RN buy hornady. Thank you. Oakie

    I use this load with 117gr. Noslers. 48grs H4831SC.
I have a pre 64 model 70 that I don't shoot much, but this load works well when I use it. I got the load from a long time 257 shooter, it groups well in my rifle. I use H4831SC in many of my rifles, from 250-3000 and 257 through 300 Win Mag, that also drew me to the load.
I would start at 45grs. and work up.

I tried a lot of different loads in Annie's rifle and the 100 grain Speer hollow point, and 44.0 grains of H-100V is a hell of a deer getter......

    Okie,

I second/third/whatever the motion on H4831sc in the .257 Rob case. With the heavier bullets in .257 Rob, you might also try the H1000 or RE-22. With lighter/midweight bullets I've also had great success with RE-17 and RE-19.

I have used H414 on 117Gr bullets in the past. Hunter would also work. RL-17 may be the best in velocity for you. I usually like the 4350 range of powders although I know lots of people have had good success with slower powders in the "Bob"
