50 yr old brass-new in boxes

Twowings2UTwowings2U Member Posts: 90 ✭✭
I have 60 rds of 45-70 Winchester brass. new,unprimed, but, about 50
or 60 years old. It is the thick head,(not balloon primer pocket)
They still look just as new as the day I got them.

I wish to load them with some pretty hot loads--Arisaka bolt action.

Anyone have any ideas as to condition, age softening/hardening ?

They will be just fine. I have a small ring Mexican Mauser in 45-70 and a 600 Remington with a 350 Rem Mag necked out to 45. Both rifles are under 6 pounds. With top loads recoil can be sharp. I run cast bullets from 292 to 540 grain. Unique and IMR 4198 mostly but I have used lots others.

The 45-350 Rem Mag is my favorite grouse gun when loaded with shot. 9 grouse with 7 shots. Got two pair of doubles on the ground via careful alignment, the rest on the wing.
