    Hello JD

When I don't have a load I need, I go to Hodgdon and Alliant websites for info. I also use them both for pistol/rifle info to double check what my books say.

I looked at them and they have loads for the Speer 140gr SP for the .270 and the WSM. They aren't Berger bullets but the info will give you a good idea what your looking for.

    http://data.hodgdon.com/cartridge_load_1.asp
    http://www.alliantpowder.com/reloaders/recipedetail.aspx?gtypeid=2&weight=140&shellid=63&bulletid=116

I only use these two powder makers. Hodgdon makes Hodgdon,IMR, and Winchester powders

I have used the old Jack O'Connor load for 130gr Bullets for more than 40 years. It works just as well for 140gr Nosler AccuBond which I've loaded for the last 3-4 years.
    Win LRP
    59gr H4831SC
Originaly O'Connor used Magnum primers because he was using the old H4831 which was stick powder and a little harder to light than the SC. I have 3 Winchester model 70s right now, and they all shoot this load sub 1" MOA. I've not found many that don't shoot it well. This is a 270 Winchester load.

    CapnMidnight,

That load must be for the standard .270 Win. not the .270 WSM as asked for.

I like the Hodgdon Hybrid 100V loads found on their website. We worked up a bunch of these for hunting style rifles with 24-25" barrels and got very consistent performance.

My standby powder, Re-25 is excellent as well but requires more powder per load. Surprisingly, IMR-7828 SSC was showing very good performance also.

Your best bet is to start with the loads on the Hodgdon website and work up from there.

    Best.

    Nononsense,
He asked for loads for both 270 Win and 270 WSM.

Be aware that the load listed by CaptMidnight is one grain over the max load listed on Hodgdens website for 4831 powder. You should start with lighter loads and work up to this amount, checking for signs of excess pressure along the way. I've gotten good accuracy using 56.5 grains of H4831SC under a 140 grain Sierra SPBT. This from a Model 70 Winchester built in '74.

Yes, I was half asleep when I posted that load. The load is correct, BUT you should work up to it, checking for presure signs.

    jd3020emma,

My two best loads using 140 gr. bullets for those cartridge are:

The .270 Win using 51.4 gr. of Win 760 (I was surprised) behind both Berger 140's and Nosler BT's/Accubonds. That load shows over max on Hodgdon's site so start @ 45 gr. and work up. (max is 48)
I also worked up a load for a friend (who also has a post '64 Win 70) that was 56.7 gr. I stuffed the bullets all the way down to minimum size. They shot great though. That is 1.4 gr. below max. Start @ 54 gr. and work up.

For the .270 Win Short Mag, I have found the load of loads for that rifle (my brothers) is 66 gr. of H4831. I loaded them up for my brother and he shot the best group he's ever shot in his life. That was well under the .500" mark. We did take that rifle out to 800 and it shot well at that range too.
