Lyman Turret Press

hawkflyerhawkflyer Member Posts: 51 ✭✭
I just purchased a Lyman S-T turret press. It looks to be old but in great shape. I am bringing over my Lee dies from my brothers in a few days but am now wondering if they will fit. It looks right but I just dont know. Can you still get Manules for these presses? Will my Lee dies fit it? And is it a good press? Thanks.

The Lyman Spar-T press has served me well for many years. All standard size dies will fit. However, large diameter locking rings will not fit side-by-side due to the close spacing of the holes. Just a simple matter of replacing the die locking nuts with smaller diameter ones. They all are standard 7/8X14 size. Lube the moving parts occasionally.

Dunno if the current standard shell holders fit or if you need an adaptor.
If you do, Lyman may have them as well as an instruction booklet.
They took care of my All-American press.

if you need the adapter, I may just have one around here somewhere. Just email me and I'll send it to you.

Its a Very good press and one of my favorites, I gave one away not long ago here on the forum. It will serve you well all std dies will work.

The only cartridge that's challenging to load with that press is the 45-120-3-1/4". Bullet seating is the hard part because your at almost Max throw and if your not dead center you will lose some expensive brass or the bullet will be grossly off set.

Well I have started reloading on my press and I really like it. My dies all work great and it seams to be a very sturdy press. Thanks for all your input. You guys are great.

Good! A little trick I use when you seat bullets with this press
    Go up a little, seat
come down Rotate the case 1/3 Go up a little more
Come down Rotate the Case 1/3 go up a little more
    final do the same.

If you have a bullet concentricity gauge, compare this method over a single bullet push and seat method and see what you come up with. Swing with the best method. Some Lyman presses work better with only 2 rotations

I have a Lyman turret press, but Small Base sizing dies typically .223 & .308 plus a few others render the small base dies useless in it. And that's right from Lyman.
