My father came home from WW2 in 1945, and his generation became known as the "Greatest Generation" .
My brother came home from SE Asia in 1973, and his generation should be known as "the generation, the our nation screwed".

Welcome home guys.......Some of us know the real story.
    And Thank you.

Gary Barnes KIA 1967 . I post in your memory and the last time we road motorcycle together.

At the medical clinic today I had the privilege of wheeling my chair up to a WWII vet and shake his hand in thanks,

Hank Schroder. He came home from Vietnam without an arm, much of his leg and other essential parts. Got the Silver Star for continuing fighting his platoon after he was wounded.

Son and grandson of generals, WP grad ( one of the good ones)

Mentored me as a CPT when I was a new lieutenant and we were both working in an admin type office; suggested I meet a young lady ( we got married 9 months later; he was our best man.)

Stayed in the Army and made LTC.

Died way too young; I suspect the wounds were part of his early passing.

I was commissioned in Aug 72; it was all over but the shouting then. I told him once I wondered how I would have performed had I gone "over there" but he gave me his best big brother/wise officer look and said, "It's not worth the price."

RIP Hank. He was the kind of officer I wish I had been.

I lost another old friend yesterday. Ricky Lloyd Taylor, USMC, Vietnam 1974. Rick was an old motorcycle buddy. He never talked about his service other than he didn?t see any combat.
Rest In Peace, RT. I?ll see you soon.

    Excellent observation. ;)
The government has no rights. Only the people have rights which empowers the government.
