My recommendation would be to skip he whole damn city and head north to the Carson City Reno Lake Tahoe area. So much nicer in my opinion.

Haven't been to Vegas in the last 30 years!!
Used to go every 3 or 4 months , back when it was a gambling and entertainment town.

    Now it's gone "Hollywood" .
    :cry::cry::cry:

But I heard they did lots of new building with my money I left there.

I pass through there every six months or so. The last time I stayed was for a reunion some ten years ago. Then, the Cirque de Sole show at the MGM was amazing - and expensive. Not much help, I know.

I stay in Henderson when I go through. A lot less turmoil, no porn guys bugging you on the sidewalk, and less chance of getting mugged. The Strip itself is a cesspool, IMO. While you are gawping at the fountains (or silicone enhanced women), you are getting your pocket picked. The days of cheap food and cheap drinks are LONG gone.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

As above, the days of me and Vegas are gone. Last year, just idiots on the strip, bums, beggars, and rude people. Prices were sky high for anything. I really like the Laughlin area.

There are at least three gun shops with shooting ranges where you can rent sub-machine guns. You have to buy the ammo from them & they have someone stand beside you while you shoot but if you have never shot full auto it can be worth it. (Just be sure to bring plenty of money)

I was there for a conference and stayed at Mandalay Bay. I thought I might take in a show, but Penn and Teller were over $300 for tickets and so was Blue Man. Scratch that. Thought I would take a roll of quarters and put $20 in a one armed bandit. Now all electronic and looked like a video game. Came home with a roll of quarters. I cannot think of a single reason to ever go back, except the better half has a nephew there she has not seen since he was two. He is now 40 and we are going to visit in Sept. I gather there are some sights to see out of Vegas, like the Hoover Dam, and the bar where Wyatt Earp tended in Tonopah. Not places I would ever bother with except for family.

I used to have to go there on business a lot. Was waiting to board flight, incoming flight unloading. Young couple got off plane, walked to first slot machine (yeah, they have them in the airport) threw in a quarter and hit a $16,000 jackpot.

Everybody that was waiting to leave Vegas was yelling the same advice to them- "GET BACK ON THE AIRPLANE NOW!"

Bluntly- I don't gamble. If not for work, I would not go there. Period.

A buddy is getting married there and I?m going to his wedding.

Would it be feasible to take a day (or 2) trip and see the Grand Canyon? I read somewhere about helicopter flights to the canyon.

    Has anyone done that?

It would take at least 1/2 day to drive to the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas. Be sure you have accommodations there prior to going. If you show up without, you will be sleeping under a tree. Tuba City and Flagstaff are other options, but not really close. There are helicopter trips from Las Vegas.
Death Valley is day trip distance from Las Vegas.

Spent two weeks there in 1987 vacationing with friends who are stationed at Nellis afb . Saw tons of shows , gambled a bunch and toured Hoover damn and played at lake mead. Rented a car and drove over to California to visit friends in Los Angelos . Life was good when I was young and single . Prices were cheap and I won enough to basically break even on the cost of the trip Would love to go back

I was there in October I think for a wedding. Great tome, great friends- ticked the block and simply not my scene.

Check and see of there?s a Barrett-Jackson auction or something interesting in town. The Uber drivers will know what?s going on while you?re there.

Not a big gambler but I love going to Vegas. I let my wife go gamble and I hit the awesome cigar bars(Casa Fuente has awesome mojito?s inside Caesars Palace Forum Shops). Loved the Mandalay Bay Hotel. Fun pool and wave pool. Aquarium, awesome restaurants. Great whiskey bar called RiRa there. Battlefield Las Vegas for machine gun shooting. There?s the Richard Petty racing experience if you want to drive a stock car. Great bar at night to sit and people watch and listen to live music is Rhumbar at the Mirage.

This isn't a destination, but advice anyway... We got a pass for the rail/metro thing but it seemed it was always a ways from what we wanted to see. We ended up giving it away and got the pass for the bus instead.

We took a few day trip from there and went to Grand Canyon, saw the London Bridge, Hoover Dam, and stopped it the town that was built for the workers for the dam (can't think of the name of it at the moment).

We aren't gamblers so none of that interested us. We did like the light show on the old covered part of Vegas. We saw Penn & Teller which was good. If not squeamish, check out the "Bodies" exhibit if it is still showing. There is a really need museum there, it might be the Natural History Museum" that we both enjoyed a lot too. None of the dining stuff, nor the Bellagio fountain show really impressed us much.
Fanatic collector of the 10mm auto.
