GOA....Dismantle the NFA

Got this email from the GOA today. At the start they are all fired up and want a FULL repeal of the NFA. Then they want you to support some bill called the " Home Defense and Competitive Shooting Act". It seems that bill will deregulate SBRs, but no more mention of a "full repeal"

GOA Member,

As true believers in the Second Amendment, we support a FULL REPEAL of the unconstitutional National Firearms Act.

Congressman Roger Marshall?s Home Defense and Competitive Shooting Act will be a major step toward shredding the NFA to pieces.

His bill will undo the unconstitutional registration, taxation, and regulation of short-barreled rifles by removing them from the NFA and forcing the ATF to DESTROY all related records.

Please add your name to our pre-written letter urging YOUR representative to CO-SPONSOR this critical bill that protects our God-given rights.

When the Founding Fathers wrote the Second Amendment, they didn?t ?leave room? for a federal agency to regulate barrel lengths on rifles or pistols.

In fact, the Founders wrote the Second Amendment specifically to protect us from a tyrannical government that sought to regulate every aspect of our lives.

And the passage of the NFA has created a nightmare of infringements upon our Second Amendment rights.

But gun owners now have a legislative vehicle to attack another element of the NFA?s meaningless regulations.

We must urge EVERY member of the House to back this bill.

Please add your name to our pre-written letter urging YOUR representative to CO-SPONSOR this critical bill that protects our God-given rights.

In Liberty,

Erich Pratt

It is well past time to take a hard look at the National Firearms Act and put it into the perspective of the 21st century.

We're probably stuck with the ban on the registration of new machineguns for transfer. It is a political reality.

The entire issue of Short Barreled Rifles and shotguns is, for all intents and purposes, irrelevant due to the so called "arm/pistol braces." Several states have their own restrictions and they are welcome to them.

Suppressors are now legal in 41 of the 50 states. In fact, the lessening of state restrictions on suppressors has been one of the positives for firearms rights. Suppressors are now mainstream and are used daily for hunting, target shooting on the range and on private property, where the neighbors appreciate it.

Any Other Weapons are probably the most misunderstood aspect of the NFA- even I have trouble sorting out some of the AOW regulations. Most AOW issues revolve around the use of a vertical pistol grip on a rifle caliber "pistol" which has been fitted with an arm/pistol brace. Make the SBR go away and that aspect of AOWs goes with it.

A Destructive Device was a total fabrication of the 1968 Gun Control Act. Prior to 1968 a shoulder fired 20mm cannon was just a big assed rifle- which in fact it is. The only criminal misuse of a DD is probably limited to the film Thunderbolt and Lightfoot.

Sadly the current make up of the Congress would seem to make any reform of the NFA impossible.
