The national political parties have no say so as to who can call themselves a Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Independent, or anything else.  If you meet the constitutional qualifications to become President, and manage to raise $5000 in contributions, you can register with the Federal Election Commission and gain ballot access in the 50 States and Territories in the party of your choice. Bernie could run as a Republican, if that is what he wanted to do.

Over the last few yeas, Bernie has wormed his way along with the democrats so much that they don't object to his support on voting.  They have now created a big problem since he is leading with most votes.

Today they released fake news that Bernie was receiving support from Russia.  Seems that I have heard that stuff on Trump.  ummmm.

Mar 3 will tell the big story on what the voters think about the whole mess.  Be funny if Bernie gets a bunch of D votes and breaks away and goes his own way.

I agree with Hobo. The Democrats have to be careful the way they handle Bernie. Snubbing him at Democratic National Convention opens the door for him to run as an Independent, which will split the party vote and virtually guarantee Trump is reelected.

For the same reason the GOP let Trump run as a Republican.  They do not want to alienate his supporters.

With all due respect to Mr. Christian, the parties do have a say as to who can participate in their primary process.  There was a lot of talk in 2015 and 2016 about the GOP denying Trump the platform and resources that go along with participating.  Primaries are party functions, not elections.  There are no Constitutional guidelines as to how the parties select who can participate in their primaries, or how that process is conducted.

There are some State guidelines, but to a great degree, the DNC could remove Sanders from consideration today if they wanted to do so.
