Weatherby SA-08 help

MgderfMgderf Member Posts: 907 ✭✭✭
I have a Weatherby SA-08 semi-auto 12ga shotgun with an adjustable gas system.
You are supposed to change out the gas piston for heavy or light loads.
My shotgun has the light load piston installed, and I do not have the heavy piston.
Will I damage the shotgun firing heavy loads through the light load piston?

They're closed due to the Covid-19 virus.

I wouldn't recommend it. Way to much gas will be vented to cycle the action. A couple of shots probably OK but the gun is not designed for a diet like that with the light piston installed. Might just get premature wear or a part may decide to fail catastrophically. I'd wait and get a heavy piston because in the long run that will be the cheaper and safer option. Bob

I have the same gun in 28ga.   I have all the hardware as I bought it new.  There is quite a difference how the gun functions with the different rings in.  I can't definitively answer your question but I wouldn't use heavy loads with the gun set up for the light ones.
