Clays powder

Always have a bunch of regular clays powder on hand for shotgun reloading. Thinking about trying it for 44-40, 44 special and 45 colt loads. Have read that generally it's fine, but can have pressure spikes close to max charges. Just wanting to make some general plinking loads, and nothing hot. Trying to simplify the amount of different powders used also. Thoughts?
