Got a call from the Social Security Admin today.

You bet.  The recording said I was being charged with money laundering!  WOW, was I scared to death.  Of course I pushed 1 to talk to the wonderfully helpful fellow who gave me his name, the case number and the ID number of himself as proof of his credentials.  He asked me to write it down and repeat it back to him, so I did and got all the numbers and letters correct.  I was  very NERVOUS and asked him what happened.  He said my SSN was found in a car in Texas that was full of laundered money.  I told him I needed that money back, it was ALL MINE.
He asked for my name to confirm identity,  of course I gave him my name, Kevin Edward Polymer, DOB 06/21/1957 and my SSI 320 54 3268 with a zip code of 44266.
I kept asking him if the US Marshals were looking for me, he told me yes and to wait while he cleared up the matter.  I made sure to tell him how scared I was that my wife did not know about the money I did not want to go to jail but don't tell my wife about it.  I asked if he was going to tell my wife about the girlfriend in the car in Texas, he said it depended on my cooperation.
He keeps asking me to wait, I asked how long I had to wait, he said just wait and let me do my job, I could hear him clacking away on the keyboard.  I agreed to keep waiting constantly telling him I think a cop is behind me, please don't have them arrest me.  I asked how much of my $6.5 million they found in the car and when I could get it back.  I was willing to pay all taxes due on it.
He asked me to wait so I did (lots of windshield time today).
I told him I had to pee from fright and was going pull over and call my lawyer.  He asked me to wait while he entered the information and cleared my SSN.  Boy was he eager to keep me on the hook.
I told him I had stopped and will call him back ASAP after I pee.  I also told him his mother would frown on her bouncing baby boy for scamming people and that the fleas from a thousand camels should infest his armpits.
For some strange reason he hung up on me.
I hope I burned up enough of his time to save some poor sod from falling for his scam.

Have had a couple calls, "Your SSN# has been involved in Fraud. We are closing your account."

"Really. Does that mean I do not have to continue paying SSN Tax?" Hello??

    Crickets....................................

I like your approach though Bruce.

I once received a similar call. To add weight to their threat, I was told that my employer would be notified.

     "Really? you're talking to him!"

They didn't grasp the idea that I was self employed. They didn't know the name of my business, and when I asked for them to read back my Employer ID Number- which is NOT the same as my SSN, they hung up.

But why did you give him my SSAN?

    Thanks!

I can't believe they misspelled "Pork and Beans!"

Yeah, but mine was a recording, he couldn't even hear what I had to say.

I had one of those this afternoon.  Courtesy of some friends that are Sikh, I have developed a moderate degree of profanity in Hindi and in Urdu.  Accused him of unnatural relations with his sister, said some rude things about his Momma, called him a thief and a dog, and that his boyfriend had complained about him.  Apparently he was not allowed to hang up.  Got into an absolute screaming hissy fit- made worse by laughter on my part.
Hey- when yer an old phart, you take your fun where you can find it- and he DID interrupt a PERFECTLY good nap!

I have a friend who answers breathing heavily.  Tells the caller to hurry up....I'm screwin' the neighbors wife and he's supposed to be home any minute".

I did that once. Scammer called and I kept asking him to hold. After fifteen minutes I told that to stay where he was the US  Marshalls were coming through the front in five minutes and to have a nice day.

I got tired of dealing with the bastards. Especially those "Microsoft" jerks. I put a CPR CallBlocker on my land line. It has a big red button that says BLOCK NOW. One stab and that calling number is banned forever.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

And besides, SS will not phone you, unless you have called THEM & made an appointment.

I get those calls all the time that is why I keep a home phone and give my cell phone number to only close friends and relatives. Hell I don't even give my cell number to my doctor.

Same here. I don't even turn the cell phone on except for five minutes every month to clear the junk calls. Otherwise it's off.

My cell phone is ONLY for emergencies & few people know my number. I use Tracfone & pay about $6/mo. That gives me 60 minutes every 90 days & I have built up 4654 minutes & 5040 texts & 633.63 mb data. Quite a bit of that was built up on double & triple time deals. Still that shows how little I use it.

I received one of those Social Security calls one time......it was a computer generated voice obviously poorly stitched together. I just hung up. I don't give my number out except to recipients that really need it, but recently I have been getting a lot of texts from democrap operatives asking me if they can count on my vote for so and so candidate. Whether it is presidential or state I tell them, "yes.......you can count on me to vote for TRUMP (or whatever Republican candidate)........sometimes I engage further messages......most of them tell me "ok.....we won't contact you again"...........but they still do.

I just wonder how my number has been obtained by these people.

Your number is BR-549.  They use a computer dialer that calls BR-540, 541, 542, 543, etc.  They don't NEED your number- and the computer does not get tired of dialing.

This used to work for me until the callers started changing their phone #'s and fake locations!   The same scammers from bum .... Egypt but call shows it coming in from my hometown!  Bastages!!

I have read just about everywhere that the IRS will never call you.

In fact, this statement is false.  I actually did get a real call from them a few years ago regarding my tax filing.   The guy on the line was very cryptic at the beginning of our conversation, not wanting to shed light on the exact problem with my form.   When I started to get a bit excited, he told me to just check the accuracy of my kids SS#'s and ended the call.

Seems my accountant got one of my sons SS #'s wrong.
