Manchin caves - sort of

BobJudyBobJudy Member Posts: 6,445 ✭✭✭✭

What's in the Manchin-Schumer tax hike and climate change bill? | Fox News

After all he does call himself a democrat, so this doesn't surprise me. Disappointed yes, surprised no. At least this spending bill is less than 1/6 the size of the original proposal and has some good stuff like releasing some oil and gas leases immediately. It also hinges green energy development on fossil fuel production. 1.9 billion for inner city tree planting does make me want to throw up but I guess it could have been a lot worse.

The new 15% tax on large corporations is supposed to make you feel good, unless you realize all those hundreds of billions of dollars will just be passed on to the consumer, you and me, and will raise already high prices even more.

I think the biggest thing Manchin accomplished is now having both sides calling for his hide. The progressives are appalled by the "small" size of the bill and the fossil fuels and the conservatives are mad about the spending. Manchin is now the most unpopular guy in D.C. Bob

As always, we need to pass it before we tell the ignorant masses as to the details.

These corporations already pay taxes on income as calculated in the tax code. What is this 15% to be based upon.

Biden and the majority of his advisers have no experience in the private sector. This socialist cabal will kill us if we do not kill it first.

Freedom and a submissive populace cannot co-exist.

Another Trillion dollars passed in Funding bills in congress again and a big tax increases of 15% on billion dollar Corporations in the future to lower the deficit? Gosh spend a trillion and raise taxes and then wonder why we have stagflation for 10 years after the great reset? 😁

About as dumb as a box of rocks to spend trillions and raise taxes during a recession. Yes we are in a recession despite the corrupt partisan media and Joe Biden telling us otherwise. But that's what DEMOCRATs do.

Further and to consider as a teachable moment we have a classic example of DEMOCRATs attempting to fix a problem THEY created and using the same tax & spend methodology which has a long history of total failure. Some people never learn and this includes the voters.

Manchin helps end the big biz loop hole where the top corps pay no taxes. Not a "tax hike". He just lost 10 LBs of fat.

You got it right, congratulations. Corps do not pay taxes. People who use their products and services take care of that.

I know! Let's all buy an electric car! That'll really help! Get rid of fossil fuel power generators too!

Of course there is those pesky rare earth elements that are needed, 6X the amount than a internal combustion vehicle. Wind powered generators use up to 25X more than a natural gas power plant. I just read where for every ton of rare earth mined, 2000 tons of toxic waste is generated. So let's all go green, electric cars, storage batteries for every home, batteries for your electric company. After all what's a few hundred million tons of toxic waste gonna hurt?

Doesn't anyone ever think things all the way through anymore? Bob

Unintended consequences be danged!!!.......(edit: because first.......last.......and ALWAYS......it's ALL about the MONEY!!!!)

Inflation? Shop around. Big dealers are OVERSTOCKED and paying to maintain and rent to store obsolete , lot rot stock. Toxic EV, and toxic re-newables? That can be managed better than fossil, if they want to. Scientists can fix those problems. WWIII might happen and that is toxic. SHTF supplies are available. Satalite net connection might raise the option of "on the grid" cabin building in the mountains , desert , offshore. Many options.

  • BobJudyBobJudy Member Posts: 6,445 ✭✭✭✭

Just who are these "overstocked" big dealers? I haven't seen an over stocked grocery store in a long time. How about an "overstocked" gas station? Do those even exist? "Overstocked" pharmacy, I don't think so. How about car dealers, have you seen any with an abundance of inventory that they are selling at bargain prices? Yes, I do shop around and look for the best prices but on necessities, bargains are few and far between. Perhaps there are some discretionary items that don't have a lot of demand that you can still get good deals on. However, a lot of folks have no discretionary budget left after buying the necessities.

My point about the excessive amounts of toxic waste generated in order to go green, was that we always seem to jump in with both feet and the hell with the consequences down the road. Kind of like switching from fossil fuels to electric vehicles without having the power grid to charge them. Among the stupidest, save the planet, schemes is to shutdown existing nuclear power plants. The hysteria about nuclear waste has caused us to risk a failing power grid. By the way, those 2000 tons of toxic waste for every ton of so called green rare earth's - much of it is radioactive. So instead of contained nuclear waste from a reactor, you will have millions of tons of mine waste dust free to enter the environment. Sure sounds like a sound plan to me!😮 Bob

Manchin finally caved all right to an * load of who knows what. PORK, this would put the world BBQ Championship to shame. There will be literally thousands of millionaires made over this.

  • SW0320SW0320 Member Posts: 2,386 ✭✭✭✭

I don't think there is any kind or sort-of in Manchin's caving. He caved.

  • mike55mike55 Member Posts: 2,855 ✭✭✭✭

True.......because INFLATION IS SO HIGH that people have no discretionary money left after buying FOOD! Walmart said they are cutting prices on non food items to reduce inventory because NO ONE is shopping outside of the food dept. They even said that almost 90a% of shoppers never leave the food aisles because inflation is so high and food costs takes ALL their money.

    Wake up, dont become woke!

  • BobJudyBobJudy Member Posts: 6,445 ✭✭✭✭

That's the point I was trying to make! Quite often people don't look past the headlines at the underlying causes. When your choice is buying food and gas or the latest electronic gadget, the responsible folks leave the gadget on the shelf. For the well off, this next holiday season will be full of bargains. For the not so well off, even the bargains will be out of reach. Bob

The Greenies have fought this pipeline for years. The Democrats hypocrisy knows no bounds.
