Thus looks like a Blackhawk...serial number on the bottom like a Colt SAA.....the ONLY markings are 45 Colt on the side and S#

Pretty quality looking. Agree that the thing looks like a Super Blackhawk that has had the octagonal barrel added. Are the Ruger stampings shallow enough that they can be scrubbed? Does the s/n come up in a Ruger check? Does it have any foreign looking proofs on it anywhere?
The serial number is D1001….its on the bottom of the frame, forward of the trigger guard….its very small compared to Colt markings. The number doesn't pull up on Ruger or Colt's website. The only marking other than the serial number is the caliber marking on the side….and its in a panel, like the etched Colts markings somewhat.
I figure this is some kind of Pietta or Uberti….maybe?
Its fantastic….super clean, but a total mystery.
That front sight and the shape of the trigger guard might help nail it down.
Right now I don't know what I can do with it?
definitely has a BH look, but the sights (front and back) trigger guard and hammer look different than any of mine and the cylinder's on mine are not fluted, but Ruger does have some that are… I think you may be on the right track as a clone.
Looks to me like a old Blackhawk flattop that has been modified. The front sight looks very similar to an 1858 Colt, with a taller base.
Looks like a Virginia dragoon that has been modified.Interarms imported them back in the 70s to 80s if o remember correctly.
That grip shape does fit the dragoon for sure.
Uberti or Cimmarron?
You can send it to me for a free evaluation. I will keep it for a while and let you know. 😁
Watching 🧐
With that chonky frame I'd say Ruger.
Take the grips off and the trigger frame and see on top of the bit that fits in the frame has a date stamp (Uberti puts it there). I wonder if the hammer spring is flat or a coil? Doesn't Ruger use coil spring?
It might be a Virginian Dragoon, made back in the 1980's iirc came in 357,45 colt and 44 mag. very close to the Ruger in general appearance , serial appearance and number range is also similar to the V. Dragoon's,
Might be a tool room one off experimental piece, company was not around for very long, but the examples I sold and shot were of very good overall quality.
What Yosh said, Uberti makes wonderful clones and to keep the aesthetics they hide their markings well. You may have to do some minor disassembly. Unlike Pietta and a few others.
Uberti 1858 New Army conversion …. yours with the rear sights and squared trigger guard has me a little confused. Their website uses 34 1001 as the model number
After further research, rear sight and absence of markings looks like early 1954 , Great Western Arms production. . Possibly a custom ordered piece. Most of the early production stuff was not roll-marked in any way .
Great Western Arms does fit as far as the shape and how the screws line up.
I don't see any GW with octagon barrels, but I haven't had a lot of time to look.
I don't think it's a Great Western Arms the trigger guard is not "D" shaped. Maybe it's just a Super Blackhawk with a "custom" barrel? You know parts bin special.
I still vote for it being a customized great western .
Is that a lanyard ring I see in the first pic?
Italian made arms will always have proof marks.
Yes….it has a large loop on the bottom of the grip. I've seen some Dragoons with that same type ring.
Looks to me like it is someone's 'fantasy' composition using a Remington Army barrel and a Super Blackhawk frame
Well, Kasey, I hate to be the one to tell you but that Frankenvolver will probably never sell. You might just as well box it up (you've got the box, right?) and ship it to me for proper disposal. I believe you've still got our address?
Did you look under the grips for more markings and to see if it has coil spring or leaf spring?
Kasey, lt looks like a Bisley style grip to me.
One of the family members wants to keep it…..this came to us from a gunsmith's estate. They believe this was one of his "projects" so they are going to keep it in the family. I have returned it to them. So, the mystery will stay a mystery. I really was convinced it was an altered Blackhawk…..but it having no serial number or markings on the sides I guess it can't be that…..the grip seriously looks just like one of the Dragoon pics I've seen online. The shape of the trigger guard doesn't fit the Blackhawk or the Dragoon….the Great Western looks like it fits close in a lot of ways. I wish we could find that fly on the wall when this was made just to clear up all the questions.
It was EXCELLENT though….he really knew what he was doing when he did this one.
Oh….forgot to mention, we did take the grips off….no markings on the underside or hidden areas.
