Guy just dropped off 30 guns and wants to pick them up tomorrow because his wife is in a rush
I swear, some days are an uphill battle. I got an email from someone saying he would like to use our services. I explained the details and how our process works. He said he wasn't far from us and would bring some this week.
Then he asked if we gave discounts for large quantities, I explained that we have some of the lowest rates as far as consignment sales go and we could not possibly do any discounts. He said he would drop them off the next morning (today.)
He came, we got his 30 guns in the house, went over the process again and asked if he had any questions, showed him around and introduced the team to him. He was good….happy with everything. He gets 15 min down the road and calls.
"I'm coming to get my guns….my wife said we can't wait that long."
I tell him we are as fast as he could expect anyone to do this sort of thing, but if he had an emergency we could try to do more of his per week to help speed things up.
He said "If you're selling one a week that would be forever before we got paid"
I went over things AGAIN…..and explained it was not one per week, more like 5 per week on average, depending on the number of consignors we are working with. Right now we have about 20 different collections and we're running a higher number per week to try to make sure everyone has a decent number of things up.
He said he had a buddy with a store……I stopped him right there and said "you don't expect a store to be able to sell your things at a quick pace, that is going to take WAY longer if you go that route. He says he would just list them himself….I tell him that is fine, we just want him to realize this is not what he had told his wife. He confirms that he is coming back tomorrow to get these things.
I told Scott (he handles the inventory) that this is probably a blessing and we were probably in for some other problems if they had let us do these.
Not 5 minutes later another person dropped off 20 guns and I have a call from two people I'll be planning a trip to pick up in Florida and South Carolina.
I'm just thankful this is not a regular thing…..I've never had someone completely misunderstand how this works so many times. The kicker is there aren't a lot of "good" things in this mix here…..which is standard practice. Most people give us some dead weight before they have us run their good stuff.

Good thing it's just a "hobby" and you are probably correct the guy sounds like a pain.
Yep, he is doing you a favor by not using your service. Gooda bye
A guy who gets bossed around by his wife. Pitiful.
He left them in your possession overnight. Supposed to be entered in bound book within 24 hours. Will you paper them back to him?
I made it clear, he had to pick them up before a specific time. If he doesn't make it a sheet will be done.
Everyone seams to think that you can work miracles. They want top dollar for there second rate items. Don't you just love being in business.
Should have made him a cash offer
Fastest way to get paid
I don't want this batch…..I would only want to buy two of them if any. I don't even really want those two.
I don't mind running the culls in someone's collection….so long as I get a few "good things" to go along with it. I completely understand the idea of selling the less desireable first.
He wasted your time and deserves an overnight storage bill.
Can you get another 20 of mine up this week?😈
The guy can't make a decision to save his life…. He will change his mind again before tomorrow ! 🙃
Just kidding….The sooner he is out of your hair the better !!!
Kasey CAN DO MAGIC. She's brokered LOTS of my stuff over the years🤑
l remember this 6 1/2 Model 29 l bought for a song. She had a factory box/tools,
But no GUN. We put my gun in her box. Turned in to TWENTY BENS. lmagine that😲
If I lived closer I'd come give you a hand. I have worked at gun shops for 30 years and am really good at packing and shipping firearms. Probably shipped close to 800 firearms and never had one damaged in transit.
So did the Clod show up ???
The problem with buying the whole lot like Locust stated is only a few were worth it. If you are known for listing top of the line items, you don't want to start listing the junk. I'm used to dealing with alot of stuff left over after the prime stuff is gone. So now it's either I repair it or list it as projects. Your business profit is still there but in a different direction.
I buy a few things here and there….if Larry finds out we "own" it he will try to keep it, no matter what it is.
We get such a broad mix of things….we don't say no to anything and we are able to deal with everything from the rare top dollar things to pure garbage, whatever comes in we are here to help.
I've got a belt fed 50 cal semi auto coming soon!
Yes…..without fanfare…..that transaction is done. I was out picking up items yesterday so I was not here, but I heard he said "I'm going to try some things and I may be back"…..ummmm, no, you will not is my first thought.
I think you've dodged the proverbial bullet with this guy.
