Shooting some oldies.....and a story
Hit the indoor range yesterday and hung out with a few buddies. While there I had the opportunity to fire some firearms with a few years on them. I had my Dad's Ruger MK I from 1964. I also shot two Colt Revolvers, a Detective Special from 1971 and a Special Police from 1935.
The triggers on the Colts were smoooth as could be…especially the Special Police. The MKI was very accurate.
The MK I came to me after Dad passed in 2010. It was the first pistol I fired back when I was 8… My Dad ended up with it when a family broke down near our house. They were headed out West to start a new life and all they had was packed up in their car. They had a wheel bearing let loose and a flat tire when my Dad checked on them.
I remember Dad called a friend of his and the car was towed to a nearby garage. The wheel bearing was fixed and some better used tires were put on the vehicle. Dad got them some pizzas to eat while they were waiting. He also gave them some food to take with them. The cost of the repairs took a lot of what they had to work with, so they offered Dad the MK I for 15 bucks as I remember, but it might have been 10 though. Dad bought it and gave them more than they asked for just because… I am proud to own it…..
Any oldies with good stories in your safe ???

Good day, good story.

A good deed, by a good man !! ,,,,,,,, William 81
Many years ago a friend ask where he could get a stock for his daughter’s Springfield Model 15. She loved to shoot but no other .22’s in the family. I had a Model 15 that had belonged to a family member. Gifted it to the young lady lady, with a brick of 22lr.
As circumstances would have it that little girl grew up and married Toby Keith.
I have two guns from my dad that are both 70 years old: a Remington 550 and a Browning Auto 5 Light 12. Both are in great shape and I shoot both of them regularly.
I call the Remington "old reliable" because after thousands of rounds it's still the most accurate iron sight 22LR I've ever shot. It just fits me perfectly. It was the gun I learned to shoot with when I was a kid and it's one of the 3 I will never part with no matter what.

Sure miss Tob.
Couple of bring backs from our fathers and WWII. One is the first hand gun I shot. Walther PP in .32.
I have my father's Mossberg 44US and Winchester 20ga. model 37. Both are priceless to me.
I've got 3 from Dad and one from my grandma.
Dad's are a 1954 Model 94 in .32 Win Spcl., an old Iver Johnson/Champion Bicycle works 12 gauge single shot, and a Winchester Model 72 from 1939. He bought the 72 when he was 11 years old so he could compete on the school rifle team.
Grandma's lil' gun is a 1903 Colt auto in nickel and mother of pearl. .32 ACP and built in 1920. I'll bet it hasn't had 200 rounds through it.
Great stories !!! Thanks for sharing them..
When I was 16 i had my first job i bought my dad a mossberg 16 ga for Christmas had my mom do the paper work
He always wanted a 16 ga I think he shot it maybe 10 times in his life as we lived in town
I think it was a carry over wish he had since his youth when it was hunt or go hungry
He also had a old Steven's 67 ? 22 tube feed for a long as I remember always loaded and hanging on the wall
A few years before he passed on (RIP DAD)
he gave them to me Of course I still have them . I plan to pass on to my sons or gtand kids
I get them out a couple times a year they are stored in a safe and wipe them down as precaution, but they bring back so many memories of dad when I am holding them
That's the way I feel when I take the Browning shotgun out. I can imagine dad and his friends out in the West Virginia woods back in the 50's. It's just a shotgun but it's also a time machine.

I have the Remington Model 17 that my grandmother gave my dad. She passed well before I was born.
In fact, that's how I found Gunbroker. The magazine tube has a dent in it. I started searching for a replacement on GB and finally found one. That was almost 20 years ago.
I need to pass it on, but I have no children of my own and my step children never knew my dad. My choice is my sister's son or my half brother's son. I need to make a choice.
