    I have a Luger PO8 1912 in .30 luger.
What is the maximum load for a 90 grain bullet?

    What type of powder?

When you determine the type powder and exact bullet type you can go on the powder web site and it will give you that information.

    http://www.hodgdonreloading.com/

no h-110 loads listed for 90 gr 30 luger but they have 2 other powders (Win 231, Hog HP-38) listed with starting and max loads for a 93 gr bullet.

If you are loading on the hot side you need to pay attention to the primer and case specified for the data.

My 49yh edition Lyman manual has data for 93 grain fmj bullets using: 700X, SR-4756, Bullseye, 231, hp-38

I have a 1920 "commercial" in .30 Luger that I load with the 90 gr. Hornady JHP they make for the 7.62 Tokarev. I use a load from an old Lyman manual of 5 grains of Unique. The main problem I have had is getting the neck tension right to hold the bullet securely during cycling. I finally polished a little off the expander ball by chucking it in my drill and using some 600 grit emory cloth followed by crocus cloth for final polish. Now the loads function just fine.

H110 is way too slow. You need a fast powder for this cartridge. My humble suggestion is to buy a reloading manual, the older Lyman manuals had thus cartridge listed.

The Rifleman in sept 98 published an article by Kronfeld on the 30 Luger.
Best load was.3096-85gr xtp, blue dot 7.5 gr, 1490fps from 6" bbl, 1297 from 4" bbl. Other loads were listed.
He told me he shoots prairie dogs with his 6''er.
Mauser GMBH told me I could boost 7.65 Luger loads to 9mm pressure limits
but need to increase spring to 9mm spring rate.
Another source showed the same spring rate for 30 cal and 9mm P08 Lugers.
If you want the article, contact me at 434 770-3433 and I can fax you a copy.

WHY are you looking for max in a PO8???? Treat it kindly and if you need more power move up to a larger cartridge and stronger action.

RCrosby; The reason I want more power, is that the loadings I have now DO NOT cycle the action.

What ever is shown in a reloading manual (see also 7.65mm Parabellum).
If you can't find 90gn load data, use the next heavier bullet (usually 93gn).
As above, Hodgdon has data for 93gn bullet and 231/HP38.
Winchester showed max load of 4.2gn 231 with a 93gn FMJ bullet in 1997. Reduce 10-12% for start load.
I would call the powder manufacturer's and talk to a ballistician for load data.
If your current loads aren't cycling the action, does factory ammo (if you can even find any) cycle it? You can work up in 0.2gn increments until the gun cycles or you see some signs of pressure. You may have a gun that has spring(s) for 33ksi (like 9x19) and you're trying to use 22.5ksi load data (the Win data above was for about 22.5ksi).
