Fly Fishing Question

Good morning everyone, I have recently been given a White River 7/8 weight fly rod and reel. My question to you is what kind of fish cold I use this (both salWar on Terrorer and freshwater)? I do not have a boat, so all of my fishing is from the banks/shoreline. Also, would this rod and reel be good to surf fish in the Outer Banks of N.C.? Thanks for all of your responses.

Well what you have is a decent bass fishing rod and a heavy trout rod. I don't think it would work for surf fishing. Fly rods are designed to use multiply cast in order to get a very light weight lure far and gently on the surface.

Orvis has a book called "The Orvis fly fishing guide" you should be able to pick it up for about $10.
