Ice fishing that is....

I would rather icefish than any other type of fishing.

Here is me on a good day of fishing.

...nice fish. Went to MN once...too eerie for me with the ice "moaning" and making noise...[:0]
...though I hear "noise" is good,...[:D]

The noise is good, its when it stops that you want to worry.

Last year I fished a small pond alone, mainly just for pickerel. I drilled a couple of test holes and found 10 inches of clear ice. The noise still made me nervous though. The rumble would start on the other end of the pond and would sound like thunder approaching, then would rumble the ice under your feet like a freight train was passing. I caught quite a few fish that day, but by the end of the day my nerves were shot. You just have to keep telling yourself, "Noise Is Good" and then try to believe it.

There has only been one time where my nerves were tested. I was pulling my sled through on a warmer day. If you fish around islands, usually there is water movement in spots where two islands come close. Well in one spot there was alot more water movement in two meeting islands then I had inticipated, i poked at old holes, got to about the center of the channel poke a hole, and the ice was less then 1/2 inch. I slowly walked off, not 15 feet away the ice was a foot deep.

...ya see, we don't do much ice walking round these parts...
I mean, it gets down to single digits, but warms above freezing
really quick; a few days at most.
The lakes may freeze out 100' or so from the banks, or small stock tanks will freeze over...thats it.

...I have used an axe to chop thru ice for cattle to get to water,
    brrr...[;)]
