  I have seen a friends son catch a 5lb largemouth on cutbait on the bottom while catfishing.

  Try using a worm pump. They use to sell them is bait shops but I have not seen them lately. It will make the worm float off the bottom. Everything likes to eat crawlers. Are you fishing a rock bottom or mud?
