Know that we have gotta have some fishing nuts here that know how, when and where to get into good sized Redfish around here.

I'm in the Gulf Breeze area of Florida now, can you provide some help?

Anyone that knows how to get into them, tell me about it if you would. I'd appreciate learning from someone that has knowledge and experience with the Reds.

I'm not a "Fisherman" I just enjoy fishing and I enjoy catching them. Been doing the fishing, but not doing the catching quite so well! Can you help? [?]

We catch them in the creeks and up around the oyster beds. Her in SC they have to be 14" to 27" ( I think) for them to be keepers. I throw all mine back so I don't keep up with size limits. They are also called Puppy Drum here in SC.

Most people around here use medium spinning rods and reels with 15 to 20# test. Myself I prefer casting reels such as 6500 Ambassadors with 17# test Ande. Terminal tackle is usually a Carolina Rig or a fish finder rig with cut bait from a mullet, croaker, pinfish and shrimp. I use just enough lead to keep it on the bottom. Live finger mullet works good sometimes. I also use only circle hooks due to the fact that I release all my fish.

BassAssin Grubs or DOA grubs in chartreuse works for artificials. Any top water that makes a big commotion works early and late in the day such as a big top water popper. For fly fishing I use a chartreuse and white Clouser minnow. Redfish love crabs, and the Merkin pattern is good.

    MMOMEQ-55 -

Johnny, thanks very much for the information that you have provided. You have given me many ideas to try for here to see if they might work for me in this area also.

What little I know or have learned so far dovetails with what you have shared. However, you definitly have many more angles for me to attempt.

Have caught some redfish here but they have been incidental to the the spotted seatrout and other odds and ends. Your points ought help me to focus better on the redfish. Thanks again.

A "popping" cork and a "select" live shrimp, over the grass flats is a sure bet.
