Good read

There's a book about Vietnam titled "A Bright Shining Lie" that's really good. It's about John Paul Vann, he served as an advisor to the South Viets beginning in '62 and was @ the pivotal early battle of Ap Bac in which ARVN got its butt handed to it by the VC. He got fed up with the lies the government was dishing out about how well the war was going for ARVN. He basically retired/was forced out, then ran A.I.D., which was primarily a civilian "win hearts and minds" program. Anyone else read this?

So which part of the common knowledge involving those units that were commanded by political relatives being militarily ineffective was supposed to be a lie?
