Veterans Health Care

Now there is a new issue.......Veterans who die while awaiting care at V.A. facilities. Actually, it's a old issue that keeps getting swept under the rug. I have 40 plus years of experience with the V.A. medical system. I can remember a doctor telling me that there was a six month hold on hip/knee transplants due to budget issues. I can remember V.A. managers giving themselves a bonus for cutting care costs. When I needed immediate care, I can remember being scheduled to see a specialist six months out. The best thing that could ever happen to that whole pork barrel would be to shut it down and turn it into a insurance company that pays for treatment at existing non government facilities. Turn it into a Blue Cross type organization.

One benefit that comes to mind after shutting it down....... All of the quack doctors, nurses and others who can't get a license in your state won't be practicing medicine there anymore. Did you know that the people in that system don't have to be licensed in your state and may not be qualified to practice medicine in your state?

Bill Gates solution to Hospice Care! Of course he can get the best organ transplant or knee replacement money can buy but if your poor on Obama care it will be another story!

    Bill Gates Quote!

The idea that there aren't trade-offs is an outrageous thing. Most countries know that there are trade-offs, but here, we manage to have the notion that there aren't any. So that's unfortunate, to not have people think, "Hey, there are finite resources here."

While I understand that the VA system is the primary source of care for people, I cannot understand why someone would not go elsewhere with a life threatening condition.

There are huge problems with the VA. There are personal responsibility issues as well, however, and those in dire need must take it upon themselves to have that need filled.

Although the diagnosis of all deaths do not seem to be public, one complaint in the above link concerns a 44 year old vet with colon cancer. He waited over a year to get a colonoscopy through the VA.

Without knowing his financial situation, I guess I can't be too harsh, but why in the world did he wait so long? It is his health, and he has to take some responsibility for it.
Freedom and a submissive populace cannot co-exist.

Since the nearest VA hospital is over 200 miles away, I go to the local VA clinic that opened some 10 ? years ago.

The assistance and care at the local clinic has been just as satisfactory as ever received from a local non-VA doctor...and in some instances more detailed and intensive.

ON several occasions I have been referred to the VA hospital over 200 miles away for tests, including a colonscopy that I will NEVER have done again! Not all that uncomfortable but loss of retention control made it necessary to be close the stool....that lasted for over 2 years but has slowly improved. Regardless, will NEVER have that done to me again.

The several times at the VA hospital for tests, wait time was never more than 30 minutes once arrived at the hospital. The wait time from when the clinic made the hospital appointment until actual appointment time was "when can you go, 1 week, 2 weeks or ?"

None of the appointments were for an "emergency" type procedure so it is unknown how that would work.

That is my experience with VA health care.

Of course, I also have Medicare so in an emergency situation, I can always go to the local hospital emergency room. And neither Medicare nor the VA covers 100% of the bill ....... there is always a co-pay.

Sorry to hear about your experience with " THE BLACK SNAKE " . It did come out alright in the " END " though.....[;)].I've been there with those issues and can understand what you went through. [xx(] Your experience with the VA can't be compared to what goes on in my area.
I can remember my brother in law having foot surgery there and being admonished for making noise and moving while the surgery was taking place. Seems they forgot to give him any kind of pain meds or anesthetic. He put up with it...I'd have kicked their worthless incompetent butts on the spot cut up foot or no cut up foot.
The only time that I used them was when I needed to be treated for service connected injuries that were being rated. With the exception of hearing aids and supplies, I don't go near that place. When I finally retired I was lucky enough to be able to continue my health insurance coverage. I use that and Medicare now. Hopefully, they won't take it from me and force me into the VA system.

It is my firmly held belief (and the dems has so stated) with the advent of obamacare, in a few years the VA system, Medicare, Medicade and obamacare will take over private health care and there will be a single payer system ~ all ran/controlled by the Feds. [}:)][xx(]

Those who want this to happen will of course have a separate health care plan. Wouldn't it be nice to know who actually tables these ideas? There are forces behind the " Political Prostitutes " in Washington.
