News Media - The business of fear

SouthernGentSouthernGent Member Posts: 17 ✭✭
The news media in this country can take much of the blame for the anti-gun sentiments spreading like wildfire.

Most of us know the proper uses of a firearm in protecting ourselves, our families and our rights.

But the news is big business in this country. Consider when you watch the news the most. Is it when you are smiling, happy, and feeling safe? Of course not. It is when you are afraid of something. On 9/11/01 the news media was king of tv and radio. When we are at war the ratings go thru the roof. When the sniper was stalking Maryland & DC the news media was in top form.

While people are afraid they will always turn to their news channels, be it radio or tv. So it is in the best interest for the news to always report the worst and scariest and avoid anything remotely resembling reassurance.

The violent crime rates in the US have been going down since the mid-70s. Can you tell it by the news media? Or does it seem the country has become one big ghetto full of shootings, stabbings and robberies?

Anyone not involved in any way with the sport of hunting or shooting will have no clue about the positive aspects of our sport. They also won't know about the multitude of times guns have saved people, because the news of those events never reaches them.

Fox news is probablythe most conservative, and even they don't show guns or shooters as the valiant protectors of freedom that we are.

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your counsel nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." [Samuel Adams]

It is VERY rare that you see a positive story about guns.
Even when it is a "justified" shoot, they try to put a negative slant on it.
And if they can't, you never hear any more about it.
Isn't this what we have come to expect.

    "The Business of Fear"......indeed.

SG; Think about that so-true statement. Then reflect on how odd that statement really is.

We are Americans. Americans do nor make decisions out of fear...or SHOULD not, anyway. 9/11 SHOULD have infuriated people...SHOULD have caused folks to train and arm themselves.

SHOULD have caused us to become more self-relient..less dependent on big government for our answers.Sadly...only a few people got the message that big government can only intrude on people's lives.

While owning a firearm cannot in and of itself cannot protect one against an airplane flying into a building....it denotes a mind-set of resilience......."Rugged Individualism"...something NOT heard much in the last 20 years...as Socialism rears its ugly head...

The anti-gunownership (for civilians) bias, the lessing of citizen rights and the increase in govt. rights, etc, all spring from the same well and is often found among the news/entertainmnet media, lawyers/courts, college professors and of course many politicians.

The one thing all these groups have in common is that many of them have atained a certain level of power and probably feel that most of their citizen rights are derived for them from their own "power", influence or wealth. As well as the fact that on a daily basis they personally experience a lot of "control" over their world.

The politicians with their priviledges, connections and law-making power (probably the main reason multi-millionaire Ted Kennedy is still in the game).

The press/entertainment industry because of their power to manipulate the public.

College professors because of their control/power over their classroom (tenure also empowers them, wouldn't we all like to have a guaranteed job) and their power over their students and their future.

Most of the people I just mentioned daily see and experience a much diffent world than most of the people who are reading this post.

It should be no surprise that they are often against us. What is a surprise is how long and how well we have held on.

Quote "Somehow government decided that the Constitutional Bill of Rights has become the Bill of "Suggested" Rights and are to be rationed to the citizens as the power elite sees fit"

This is why I boycott the media. You'll never see me in a movie theater, or paying for a DVD.

However keep in mind, the media's reputation is shot. Just take a look at CBS.

Why do the sheeple keep feeding this "Fear Business?" The media has taken over the position formarly held by friends, clergy, families and communities. Even the most independant of us need some kind of affirmation from somewhere to let us know we are on the right track. This is were information is linked to power. The American media makes deliberate efforts to create situations where information becomes authority.
