NRA Candidate

dsmithdsmith Member Posts: 902 ✭✭✭✭
I got my last copy of American Rifleman the other day. I won't be renewing my membership.

Guess who they told me to vote for? Arlen Specter for Senate. If you have recently visited the GOA's site, you would know that Specter gets a C- from the GOA. He voted in favor of a possible ban on "high performance" ammunition like .30-06 (Ammunition Restriction Study), and voted for the Incumbent Protection Act. Back in '94 when the Senate passed the "Assault Weapons" ban by a margin of 1 vote, where was Specter? He decided not to vote on the issue.

All this makes for a pretty bad candidate. So what did the NRA give him? An A.

I'm with the GOA. Specter is a C- at best. I'm voting for the Constitutional party in this one.

Glad my NRA membership is about to expire. More money for GOA.

Bush does not deserve a vote from gun owners. Spector is a worm. Who ever wins this ellection, we lose.

And yet I rub shoulders with proud NRA members who freely give of their time and energy to help support and protect gun rights.

Time that they could have spent posting on this forum about how "lousy" the NRA has become.

If anyone here can find the absolutely "perfect" gun rights organization, employer, church, neighborhood, spouse, etc. please let me know. Your discovery will be the first in the history of the world and needs and deserves widespread publication to the rest of the world so they can be as amazed as I will be.

Would it be asking too much of a candidate that he support the Constitution..before we 'proudly support him..? "

To the tune of 20 MILLION BUCKS..money you sent them..to Support the Constitution ?

Don't you think an organization as big as the NRA..that purports to be fighting for the Second Amendment..would find out that a man doesn't support the same things they do ?

    The Constitution..either support it..or don't.

It might very well be that any particular candidate supported by the NRA (or any progun group) is the "lessor of two evils". Now Highball you very well know what that term means. And I am of course not any fonder of having to choose like that than you are. But until larger changes are made, that is how life works.

I would perfer decisions be make based on the constitution, logic, reason, fairness, honesty, etc.. But until that time comes we all choose the best that is offered to us. Presently the best that is offered to us is Bush, the NRA PLUS the GOA, PLUS JFPFO, PLUS CCRKBA, PLUS the Second Amendment Foundatation.

Until we either create the perfect world or until it is handed to us, we have to make the best of what we have. If you and others are in a lifeboat that is taking on water, and some of the members are not bailing as you would like for them to bail, it does little good to try and destroy them.

The folks looking in at us are better able to form an unbiased opinion..because even tho you and I 'seem' to be at odds..we both want pretty much the same thing....a free America.

We are stuck with the lesser evil. Komrade Kerry is as evil as they come. You'll want Klinton/Reno back rather than the Komrade.

The problem with Specter goes a lot deeper. If he gets elected, he will chair the judiciary committee. Specter is as liberal as John Kerry when it comes to appointing judges. Specter is the Senator who created the game of "BORKING" candidates. Specter likes judges who are pro choice-which means, he likes judges who do not refer to the constitution when deciding cases. It has been proven over and over again, that judges who find a constitutional right to abortion, can not find the right to bear arms in the constitution. Specter would be an absolute nightmare for anyone who cares about judges who adhere to the constitution(these are the judges who would be quicker to find the second amendment).
Not only does the NRA endorse this hack, George Bush does also. George Bush came to this state a dozen times when Arlen was running in a heated primary. George Bush stumped hard for Arlen. I got one of those campaign calls, GW telling me to go vote for Arlen in the primary. Arlen won by less than 10,000 votes. I listened to the local talk radio programs on primary day, and caller after caller called in to say they liked Arlens opponenet better, but voted for Arlen because the PRESIDENT said that would be the wise thing to do-George Bush got Arlen elected in the primary. It just goes to show, that when it comes to having constructionist judges, George Bush doesnt give a snot-Ohh its a good platform to pay lip service to, but as far as acting to have conservative judges, thats at the bottom of the priority list.
I normally vote third party, but after Bush came to campaign for Arlen, decided I will be voting for Kerry.

And of course the NRA supported Arlen in the primary-I got into a heated argument with some sweetie at a gun show, who the NRAsent to stump for Arlen. Pathetic that they would hold Arlen in such high esteem(A rating), but not at all suprising. They often give gun grabbers A ratings. They Gave Gordon Smith, a known gun grabber, an A rating during the 2002 election. And what did Gordon do when the assault weapons ban was voted on in congress in 2004-he voted yeah on the ban. And these are the pols that the NRA supports.

It's all part of the game. Y'all should realize that by now.
Of course Specter isn't perfect. But he's a candidate who can win and he's the lesser of two evils. Why is he given an "A"? Because in a close election, you want people to come out and vote. People are less likely to vote for a "C+" candidate than for an "A" candidate, and in the grand scheme of things for the pro-gun world, it's very important that the Republicans hang on to their majority in the Senate. If they don't, life might get VERY grim for a LONG TIME. This is because of the whole Supreme Court situation. Given the age and health of several members of the Court, the next President, with the advice and consent of the Senate, will probably be picking about three new Justices. We'll probably get a new Chief Justice too. If the Democrats control the Senate, you can count on them to drag their feet during the appointment process and Bork quite a few pro-gun appointees.

Looking through my latest copy of the Rifleman, I see very few candidates that aren't either "A" or "F". Also, I noticed of the few "B", "C", and "D" candidates, I didn't see any that where in the same district. In other words, wherever there was a B/C/D candidate, there was an "A" alternative candidate that presents a clear choice.
They're probably afraid that if they listed a "B-" candidate against a "D" candidate, people won't show up to vote for the "B" candidate and the greater evil (D candidate) will get elected.

Well, after wading thru the latest Rifleman magazine..I guess I might gotta vote for Kerry.

The NRA says he will take the guns away.

If true..it means there are no men and Americans left in this great country..and we deserve ALL that the Socialists and Globalists have planned for us.

A man afraid to defend the Constitution..deserves to be disarmed..period.

Have you been paying attention. The Democrats DO NOT have to be in the majority to stop judicial appointments. They have done a splendid job, AS THE MINORITY, preventing Constitutionaist judges from getting on the bench. And the Republicans let them get away with these shennanigans, because the bottom line is, the Republicans are not all too concerned about having constitutionalist judges. If GW is elected he WILL NOT get anyone on the bench who is conservative-and thats all right by George and the Republicnas.
AND WITH ARLEN AS CHAIRMAN OF THE JUDICIARY, the fella who invented "borking" , it should be pretty obvious, considering Georges flowering endorsements of Arlen, that judges are at the bottom of Georges priority list.
Republican congress + GOP pres= liberal judges.
Republican congress and Dem. Pres= liberal judges.
Either way, we can look forward to having Oconnor, Kennedy, Ginsburg type of appoints, regardless of who occupies the Senate and the executive.
