Racism of gun control.....

Salvage33Salvage33 Member Posts: 1,182 ✭✭✭✭✭
Been pondering this one for a while, and am going to toss it out for all to ponder and add to.

After the Civil War, various states passed laws limiting what firearms could be privately held by former slaves. This was an effort on the part of local and state politicians to "keep them in line."

As more and more former slaves, and children of those people fled the South and went to large urban areas in the North (New York, Washington, DC, Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, etc.) gun laws were enacted in those cities to "protect the public" from the newly arrived work force.

As time has passed, the large urban centers have enacted even more deleterious laws concerning firearms ownership (New York states infamous Sullivan Law comes to mind).

After Reagan was shot, there were efforts by the Congress to limit the production and sale of the infamous "Saturday Night Specials." These laws were directed primarily at low income families/individuals who lived in high crime areas, and in essence, denied them the right to defend themselves against criminal elements in their own neighborhoods. Citizens of the District of Columbia cannot legally own a handgun. It is my understanding that they can own long guns, but they must be disassemble and locked up which can prove hazardous to your health if you are attacked in your own home.

This was promoted even more during the Klinton administration by then Sec. of Health and Urban Affairs (I think that was his title/position) one Andrew Cuomo, son of former governor of New York. In essence, his stated position was that if you lived in public owned housing you could not legally own a gun. And this was where a lot of the criminals did their drug transactions, and they were/are ALL ARMED. Of course, they were violating several laws, local, state, and federal in some cases due to possessing fully automatic weapons.

Anyone have any more thoughts on this? Can anyone tell me why minorities who have been the victim of racist gun laws still vote en masse for liberal Democrats?

Just a few thoughts I had....

John

Most of the people who vote for left-wing, liberal, socialists do so with less thought of exactly WHY they want to vote that way than the amount of thought they give as to which make and model of car they buy.

There is just no way to explain their ignorance.

    Money.

Voting for Democrats guarantees that social programs will increase.
The Constitution means NOTHING to this class of people.

Hell; The Constitution means damn little to middle class people.

Ask the people on this board..80 % WILL support this or that gun control by the Fedgov....support gun control..you don't support the Constitution. Most aren't even smart enough to realize this...they want to pretend.

A statement I hear all too often,
"I vote that way because my parents do/did."

No individual thought process at all.
    Just follow that first sheep.

Does anyone here know of the racist root of the term "Saturday Night Special"?

Here it is, and don't bother ripping at me for what I am about to print, because it gets vulgar and extremely insensitive, but these are not my words, and this is the truth.

The term was derived by southern folk, recently disgruntled about their former slaves' freedom, who thought of them as vermin. Crime erupted in the new former slave communities, due to their lack of material possessions, and the only thing available to them to commit crimes, by default of price, was inexpensive guns. In southern Democrat-run governents that were debating on a "solution" to this horrendously violent state of affairs, one unnamed legislator was heard saying, "...you can just go down to *-town on Saturday night and get one (an inexpensive firearm) and be done with the act on Sunday in time for church." or something to that tone.

It was later admitted by many legislators that this was the reason for this ban, and that the language may have tricked most people into the belief that there was no racial bigotry, as that was disallowed by the 14th Amendment. But while these laws were on the books, nearly 4000 disarmed blacks became the victims of the white supremacists of the day, and countless others who didn't actually lose their life to the same.

Why isn't this in the pages of history? Why aren't your children taught about this? Because, if Blacks knew about this, and then knew who brought that upon them, the Democrat party would DIE!!!!

Those who would offer any interpretation that would relegate Amendment II to "relic" status of a bygone era are blatantly stating that the remainder of the Bill of Rights isn't worth a damn, either.

Good input guys...and thanks for the origin of the saturday night special.

Now the next question is why does the African-American community block vote for politicians who promise them everything and deliver nothing, all the while eroding their rights?

The democratic party has delivered more socialism..in the form of picking mine and your pockets...and redistributing that money to minorities.

Only a fraction of the money ever makes it..and it is far easier to believe someone telling you what you want to hear then track the actual facts...Besides..it really is no secret that Republicans love big business...

Highball...I can go with part of what you say about Republicans and big business. However, George Soros' name comes to mind, and he definitely is NOT a Republican. And Terry McAuliffe, chairman of the DNC can be added to the list. Does the company Global Crossing ring a bell? You can find as many Democrat/liberal multi-gazzilionaires as there are Republican.

But since we are a society based on capitalism as opposed to socialism or communism, business is a good thing. Not sure today about some of the Republican notables, but they also, theoretically, believe in smaller government, less intervention and regulations, and are, allegedly, fiscally conservative.

    Not Capitalism,my friend....
Free Enterprise. There is a difference..Capitalism depends on an unholy alliance between big business...and big government.

Yes..in the last hundred years,Capitalism has taken over..but it ain't for the better...

I fully understand that there are more Democrat millionares in congress then Repubs...But the Repubs seem to drift the money to the upper class..and the Demos drift it downward. Both rob the middle class...we pay ALL the bills.

I stand corrected...free enterprise it is! And you are correct when you say we all pay!

    Thanks for the refresher course...

quote:Now the next question is why does the African-American community block vote for politicians who promise them everything and deliver nothing, all the while eroding their rights?

This is what apathy gets you. Those particular people are, I'll be blunt, A bunch of stupid animals, cowering to their malefactive 'masters'. They might as well still be slaves, now. The only difference between them then and them now is:

    1. They are still given "cradle to grave" protection and comfort (as pisspoor as it is, now), but now they don't actually have to do a thing for it, other than apply for it.
    2. They have victim status now, when then, they didn't really think anything of it, at all.
    3. The slaves of yore were healthy and properly taken care of, and not subject to drugs and other non-healthy habits. Not these days, though.
    4. The most insidious part of this is that then, they had no vote. Though they worked, there were no rights for them to vote. Now, they are social parasites and they DO have a vote. This is against my better judgment.

A common stereotype of the Demonkrat party:

"The Republican party is the 'party of the rich'. Democrats represent the poor and downtrodden.

Elections are won by votes. If this stereotype is true, the only way a Republican is going to be elected is by making possible that as many people can be rich and stay rich as possible.

What then, do you suppose, does a Democrat has to do in order to win votes?

    Something to think about....

gunphreak...I can go with some of what you say, but not all. I know a lot of black people who work hard, obey the law, pay their taxes, go to church, gripe and complain about government regulations as it affects their businesses, and in general, are all around good citizens. However, when election time comes, they still vote democrat, then complain even more when the person THEY voted for raises their taxes, imposes new laws/regulations, and in general raises even more impediments to elevate their financial and social position.

I work with contractors on a daily basis, about 40% of whom are black. They all complain about the same things we (whites) do. I have had an ongoing conversation for the last year with one about the election. Initially he was going to vote for whoever the dems shoved out there. Now, today, he has a Bush/Cheney sticker on his truck, and says he is going to vote for Bush. He understands the financial impact that Kerry's campaign promises will have on his business....taxes primarily...and his ability to keep four crews on his payroll.

Unfortunately, he is not the norm in the black community. For the most part, they won't put a Kerry sticker on their vehicle, or a sign on the lawn, but when the polls open up, their precincts (at least here) go about 98% for whoever the democrat candidate is.

Well, then he isn't the norm. To some, this guy would be clearly a fool. Yeah, that's the word they use....

    Here's why:

"If you are willing to vote for a commie, then it shouldn't surprise you when communism strikes the heart of the people."

And not taking advantage of the scraps the master casts at his feet.... highly unwise.

I know white people like this, too, and I have them relegated to stupid animals, also. The real difference is that most of the programs turn away white people due to the "(lack of) content of their character", oh, I mean, the color of their skin. This makes those white people even stupider than the blacks who have not seen the light of the liberals.

Am I a racist? Nope. Absolutely not. I am an anti-racist. So, what's the difference? I am the sworn enemy of the KKK AND the NAACP. Both are racist groups, and to be like me, it does not matter who the target is. I acknowledge evil on a person-to-person level, and I am an Equal Opportunity Destroyer (I couldn't think of anything of the top of my head that rhymed with 'Employer').

Uhh... if I am preaching to the choir, why would you be the only one who knows the verses???

...and sometimes, it's hard to tell. Throw up a topic dealing with racism in gun kontrol, and hey, you never know why someone would want to know our thoughts on it, right??
