Constitutional Convention

Gentlemen;
There is a move afoot from several directions for a Constitutional Convention. Neal Boortz is also talking it up.
The problem....the instant the doors close behind them ..they may do exactly as they wish to draw up a new one.
While there is a few more hurdles to jump over to get it emplaced...the media/government complex would very likely be enough to get some pretty horrible concepts bought off on by the brain-dead voting public...witness the 120 million voting obamacain this last election.
The question is;
Are you going quietly into that long dark night...after the Second and EVERY OTHER `Right' you think you own is replaced by the UN charter....where the State is finally, irrevocably final master of everything ?
Will you resist the lawful, fully by-the-Constitution- ground-rules procedures ..that bring you total Fascism/Socialism ?
Haven't thought about it ? Perhaps its time...

I haven't looked into this..but do know that Boortz is talking it up.
You hold far greater respect for the average idiot here in America then I do.
Given the push that would be put forth by the media and government, I think they could sell it today.
I don't recall the exact procedure to change the Constitution but it goes something like this:
The US Congress has to pass the changes by either a 2/3 or 3/4 majority and then it takes the state legislatures to ratify it by the same margin. I do not recall if it take 2/3 or 3/4 of the states to ratify it. And I thing there was a time limit to do this. So it is not easy, NOR SHOULD IT BE!!!
The first method is for a bill to pass both houses of the legislature, by a two-thirds majority in each. Once the bill has passed both houses, it goes on to the states. This is the route taken by all current amendments. Because of some long outstanding amendments, such as the 27th, Congress will normally put a time limit (typically seven years) for the bill to be approved as an amendment (for example, see the 21st and 22nd).
The second method prescribed is for a Constitutional Convention to be called by two-thirds of the legislatures of the States, and for that Convention to propose one or more amendments. These amendments are then sent to the states to be approved by three-fourths of the legislatures or conventions. This route has never been taken."
"There are essentially two ways spelled out in the Constitution for how to propose an amendment. One has never been used.

Thanks, it's been a few years since I took Civics!!![:D]
We don't have enough clout to run the convention.....but we have enough to stonewall the beejezzus out of it
Care to elaborate ? The last Convention nobody had any influnence over except those IN it... or so I seem to remember ?

Forget I even said that......dumbest thing I've said on the forums in a long, long time.
State governments would send their own political representatives to any convention.....and libertarian politicians are about as rare a creature as exists in America.
I just was anxious to find out what I had missed, is all.
If it is the final struggle they want, I am game.
All any man can ask...to give of your sacred honor, your fortune, perhaps your life.
I am old, tired...not much life left to give. You youngsters impress me, tho.
Most of the voting public in this country is not swayed by informed, fact-based opinion. They believe whatever "the box" tells them, and care not to mine for the truth themselves, as witnessed by this past election cycle. Couple that with a profound and disturbing lack of knowledge about the way this republic was set up to run vs. the "reality" of how it's run now and you have a recipe for utter disaster with the state being the final arbiter of rights as opposed to privileges, and who can excersize said rights et. al.
It would be assured that should such a convention take place the Bill of Rights would be aggregiously altered, * to use the common phrase, and our beloved second amendment would be thrown in the trash bin of history and our republic would fall. Should that sad day come while I draw breath, I would resist by any means within my power until such a time as they take me out or imprison me. I would prefer death to their prison though, as I am sure what would happen to me behind those closed doors would make Abu Ghraib look like a boy scout convention.............

BS, HB. Someone has to organize, train, and manage the effort, and yes get into the fight if necessary. So there is a place for all. You are a motivator, and God knows we will need all the motivation we can get. Don't sell yourself short!!![^]
I WILL admit that I motivate YOU to scream and holler a lot...and MOTIVATE some to break down into slobbering rage at times...[:D][:D]
The wording was 100 times better but you get the point he was making; I AGREE.
I believe he was calling for a CC from a grass roots movement to rescind the 16th. and the 17th. amendments, and to also call for a new one involving term limits for Congress.
The only one I have a question about is the 17th.,.......but I think I know what his thought process is on that subject. The other two suggestions, I am fully in favor of.
A radio personality does not dictate a convention. I believe there may be a bit of confusion between what he has proposed, and what the Obama folks want.
