C&R days are numbered...

Here is a story from my neck of the woods that some of you folks may have heard about this weekend. The AP and local media are playing up the C&R aspect of this story like crazy. Even the local conservative radio station (Rush, Hannity, and Savage affiliate) has a web poll asking if C&R firearms should be added to the Brady Bill.

BTW, I've been to this gun shop and whatever this guy bought must have been OLD!!! I don't think I've ever seen a double action revolver there, let alone a semi.

Here is the poll:

Here is the story:

Gunman bought firearms hours before Tahoe casino shooting

6:22 p.m. December 5, 2005

STATELINE, Nev. - The man who died in a shootout that injured two sheriff's deputies showed suicidal tendencies and had bought two old guns from a local weapons dealer just hours before Saturday's gunfight inside a Lake Tahoe hotel-casino, authorities said.
Harvey Ex, 53, of Sunset Beach, was shot nine times by the deputies in a VIP room for high-stakes gamblers at Harrah's Tahoe. He managed to fire five rounds from a .32-caliber handgun, Douglas County Sheriff Ron Pierini said.

Pierini said one of the deputies, who responded to a call from Harrah's security, grabbed Ex after he saw them approaching, stood up, ignored orders to stop and show his hands and began walking away.

At that point, the sheriff said, Ex pulled a gun with his right hand, brought it up under his left arm and fired at the officers behind him.

"The two deputies returned gunfire, firing a total of nine rounds between them," Pierini stated. "All nine shots fired by the two deputies struck Harvey Ex."

The shootout occurred in the Diamond Lounge, which sits away from the main casino floor.

Deputy Dan Nelson was struck in the hand, arm and hip by two of the five rounds fired by Ex. Deputy Erik Eissinger was shot in the torso but the bullets were blocked by a bulletproof vest he was wearing. Both veteran officers were treated and released from area hospitals over the weekend.

Ex, whose hometown is a suburb of San Diego, had an extensive criminal history dating to the 1970s and was a felon on probation in Las Vegas for assault with a deadly weapon, Douglas County Sheriff's Sgt. Joe Duffy told the Tahoe Daily Tribune.

Duffy said Ex drove up in a limousine to Roundhill Square earlier Saturday and bought two antique guns from Guns of Tahoe.

The Brady Bill, a gun-control initiative passed by Congress in 1993 that prohibits the sale of handguns to felons and requires a waiting period and licensing on their purchase, does not apply to antiques.

The gun dealer, Woody Peterson, said something "didn't seem right" at the time of the sale, and called the sheriff's dispatch center. A woman with Ex also told casino security guards that Ex was unstable and that she feared for her safety and the safety of others, Pierini said.

Pierini said casino security officers who called the sheriff's office for help described Ex as "allegedly despondent, suicidal and armed with at least one handgun."
