Condoleeza Rice

Condoleeza Rice: 2nd Amendment is important as 1st.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, recalling how her father took up arms to defend fellow blacks from racist whites in the segregated South, said Wednesday that the constitutional right of Americans to own guns is as important as their rights to free speech and religion.

In an interview on CNN's Larry King Live, Rice said her view was built on personal experience. She said her father, a black minister, and his friends armed themselves to defend the black community in Birmingham, Ala., against the White Knight Riders in 1962 and 1963. She said if local authorities had had lists of registered weapons, she did not think her father and other blacks would have been able to defend themselves.

Birmingham, where Rice was born in 1954, was a focal point of racial tension. Four black girls were killed when a bomb exploded at a Birmingham church in 1963.

Rice said she favored background checks and controls at gun shows. However, she added, "we have to be very careful when we start abridging rights that the Founding Fathers thought very important."

Rice said the Founding Fathers understood "there might be circumstances that people like my father experienced in Birmingham, Ala., when, in fact, the police weren't going to protect you." ...

Excellent story. I let out a big "YES!" when I first read about it. Are you seeing it on the Left-wing networks? (I cancelled TV a year ago so I don't know). What a story! Makes you wonder how they can ignore an African-American woman's (excuse me, lady's) voice... but I'm sure they'll find a way.

Also remember the fact that the KKK democrats wanted gun control laws to disarm the blacks.

The modern Democrats believe that Condoleeza Rice is just being used by the Republicans. I say that the Democrats only support the blacks when they are accepting government handouts, and not earning a living. It seems that the modern Democrats still like to think of the blacks as being completely dependent on the white ruling class.

dsmith, I'm not an expert on United States History, but I don't remember ever running across anything about the KKK being in favor of gun control for any purpose. The modern KKK does align itself with the Neo Nazis, which is another word of socialist, so it wouldn't surprise me. Not in a spirit of argument, but for my own education, can you site an example of the KKK being in favor of gun control?

I'd bet they sure as hell would be against non-whites owning firearms, especially the non-whites they terrorized. [;)]

Sorry about the wait. Just ask gunphreak about the meaning of "Saturday Night Special." That'll sum up the KKKs belief of blacks and guns.

They were specifically for gun control as it applied to blacks especially.
