trouble seating Barnes X triple shock

WarbirdsWarbirds Member Posts: 16,834 ✭✭✭✭
I was loading up some rifle rounds today using two different powders and three different bullets. I could not get the Barnes X triple shock to seat at all. It would get stuck in the die. I made multiple attempts at adjustment and nothing worked. The really wierd thing is I have made up the exact same load previously with no problems so what was wrong with me today? I only had trouble with the Barnes X Triple Shock .30 Cal 180 grain bullet. Everything else went fine.

Check the bullets with a good micrometer and go from there.

Gun control is hitting what your aiming at.

I have only used the .277 140 gr and the .308 150 gr. Can't help with the 180's.
I have had exceptional results using these bullets. The only odd thing is you can feel the grooved parts going in the neck when seating the bullets. Just a different feel on the press.

For the best accuracy I have had, push them fast (.5gr off max) and seat them close to the lands. My best is the 30-06 which is about .003 off.
